  2. Giant Step presents Brownswood Sessions 9 @ Nublu: Live Performances by GAEA Featuring TK Wonder and Erik Rico plus DJ Smash and DJ Moni ---CLICK FOR INFO--- ---CLICK FOR INFO--- Giant Step presents the 9th Brownswood Sessions at Nublu with a host of live performances from GAEA featuring TK Wonder and Erik Rico, plus the original Giant Step selector, DJ Smash, and DJ Moni on the 1's and 2's. TK Wonder and Duke Bojadziev of GAEA just arrived from a whirlwind European tour of summer festivals and concerts to join us at this month's Brownswood Sessions. Collectively, they performed to more than 20,000 people alongside acts like Prodigy, Seun Kuti, Señor Coconut, Gang of Four and Antipop of Telepop Musik. You can take a video tour on their MySpace . Their new album is about to drop this fall, so come check them out before they blow up! Erik Rico blurs the lines between modern soul, jazz and broken beat with poignant lyrics to take you on a seamless musical ride. During the last decade, Erik made the transition from Sony multi-album solo artist to independent creative powerhouse producing and co-writing for acts like Tupac Shakur, Jurassic 5, IG Culture and Mystic. Erik is in town from Cali promoting his new EP "A Higher Frequency." He'll be doing a full set, joined on stage by Don Cuco on percussion. It is also with great delight that we welcome an old friend, original Giant Step DJ and musical legend, DJ Smash to the Brownswood Sessions. His productions have ridden the late 80s soulful dance train making stops in early house and acid jazz through remixes for artists like Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Donald Byrd, Herbie Hancock, Bobby McFerrin, Roy Ayers & Guru's Jazzmatazz. If that weren't enough, he also co-founded Eightball Records and New Breed Records. He'll be floor-testing some new joints of his new album and remix project, 'Evidence' out in September, so get ready to get down! 21+ w/ID Doors Open At: 09:00 PM Advance Price: $5.00 BUY TICKETS ONLINE Venue Information -Nublu http://www.nublu.net 62 Avenue C New York, NY 10009
  3. Giant Step presents Ron Trent at the 15th Hudson party of the year! ---CLICK FOR INFO--- ---CLICK FOR INFO--- A perennial presence in music since the early 90's and a long time Giant Step family member, Ron Trent pulls no punches! Considered to be one of the architects of the Chicago music scene, Ron's breakthrough first release was the highly recognized classic "Altered States" in 1990. In the early 90's, Ron collaborated with House/R&B team Hula & Fingers, producers for Jive records and with Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, Kool Mo D, High Five, Lidell Townsend and MTF. Ron's sound expanded in 1997 with the release of the dance classic "Ncame U." With writing partner Anthony Nicholson, famed vocalist D'bora, and Peven Everett on trumpet, this record launched Ron onto the NYC dance scene. He quickly gained respect as a DJ/Producer by doing various gigs at Body and Soul, Shelter and hosting his own events at the legendary nightclub Vinyl in downtown Manhattan. Ron's DJ and production skills caught the attention of Giant Step in 2000. Ron started his residency with Giant Step at Shine, bringing forth a fusion of Neo Soul, Jazz Funk and World music, while merging it into a dance formula. The party, "Giant Step Weekly Sessions," sponsored by Levi's and Evian, played host to many loyal weekly followers. With Ron's vast knowledge of music and Giant Step’s thirst for the cutting edge, the event became one of the most top rated nights in NYC. Ron's in house productions on the Giant Step/Sony label, featured artists such as Amel Larrieux, Jody Watley, Anastacia, Donnie, Carl Hancock Rux, Lina, just to name a few. His productions lead him to work with other greats including Tony Allen, Chucho Valdes, Papa Weba, 4Hero, Amp Fiddler, Groove Collective, as well as various other world artists. **Twenty Hudson parties will be held fortnightly on Mondays. The outdoor Private Park is now open. CLICK HERE TO RSVP RSVP is limited to one person per e-mail. Venue Information -Hudson 356 W 58th St. New York, NY 10019 ph 212-554-6217
  4. Giant Step and Central Park SummerStage present Jamie Lidell, Janelle Monáe, Little Jackie, José James and Gilles Peterson Sunday, August 3 2008 It is always a pleasure to participate in such a great New York institution. Nothing beats an afternoon in Central Park with amazing music and beautiful people. This year our line-up is one of our strongest to date and focuses on emerging artists I tip for future greatness. Jamie Lidell, though having been around for a few years, is just now getting the acclaim he deserves in the US. His new album Jim (Warp) is a fantastic mix of Jamie's own uniqueness with influences of Otis Redding, Curtis Mayfield and a splash of Van Morrison. NY's own Little Jackie has just released my soundtrack of the summer The Stoop (S-Curve). Steeped in classic Motown grooves and Imani Coppolas sharp wit, this album is strong from start to finish. Atlanta's Janelle Monáe is yet to release her debut (promised later this year) but she is already causing a stir. You might remember her from OutKast's movie Idlewild, the perfect synergy considering Big Boi produced her upcoming album. Our opener is José James, a young man whose music and vocal delivery denies his age. His debut CD The Dreamer (Brownswood), which I highly recommend, is a soulful contemporary jazz album that rivals the masters. Finally to "connect the dots" we have all the way from London, Gilles Peterson to DJ. He has been at the forefront of new music and artists for over 20 years. Whether it is through his various labels over the years, including Talkin Loud and Brownswood, his Worldwide radio show (check him out on giantstep.net), or his DJing exploits throughout the globe, Gilles is always full of surprises and delights (even if his taste in football teams is questionable). Come out and support great music. 5. Giant Step presents The Herbaliser DJ Set w/Ollie Teeba at the 13th Hudson party of the year! ---CLICK FOR INFO--- ---CLICK FOR INFO--- Giant Step welcomes International DJ, band-member, co-founder and one half of the world famous production team The Herbaliser, Ollie Teeba to the decks. The Herbaliser are all about moving forwards, onwards and upwards. Bonding over a shared love of jazz, funk, rare groove and hip-hop in the early 1990s, West London duo Jake Wherry and Ollie Teeba have evolved with each chapter in their 15-year story. On their latest album, 'Same As It Never Was,' The Herbaliser hit a dazzling new peak. With a new label (!K7 Records), a new main vocalist, and a new focus on soulful songwriting, this is their richest and most diverse record so far. A timeless modern soul record, it should appeal not just to specialist fans but also to a new generation seduced by the knowing pop-soul nostalgia of Amy Winehouse or Mark Ronson. Glossy and gritty, organic and eclectic, 'Same As It Never Was' builds on the band's hip-hop roots with jazz, funk, R&B, pop and instrumental soundtrack influences. Jazzy instrumentals will remain a Herbaliser forte, and they admit, "We've always had one foot back in the 1960s and 1970s, but at the same time we pay a lot of attention to making the beats hard and clubby, mixing R&B and hip hop in that DJ Premier or Tribe Called Quest vein." **Twenty Hudson parties will be held fortnightly on Mondays. The outdoor Private Park is now open. CLICK HERE TO RSVP RSVP is limited to one person per e-mail. Venue Information -Hudson 356 W 58th St. New York, NY 10019 ph 212-554-6217
