  5. AVALONSUNDAYS@AOL.COM FOR GUEST LIST Tom himself may be shy but his transatlantic, twisted sound is anything but! His inimitable, seamless blend of deep tribal, jerky rhythms and electronic bleeps creates a sound that is now recognized as Superchumbo. Tom became enamoured with music at a very young age, through a combination of his own intrigue, and the influence of his father, a musician. He moved from upstate New York to London in 1991 to study at the London International Film School, but quickly became more interested in making the music for the films than the actual pictures themselves. It was on a trip home when a good friend of his took him out to the legendary Sound Factory, where he was seduced by the dirty sounds of Junior Vasquez. “I had never heard music like this before - sounds like DJ Pierre, Cajmere, X Press 2- it was all new to me and I fell in love instantlyâ€. His frequent trips to Sound Factory inspired Tom to learn the art of mixing, and try to recreate that sound in London. Tom’s own dj career kickstarted after warming up for Danny Tenaglia at Ministry of Sound. “They finally needed a DJ who played that “dark New York stuff†so Wayne, the promoter, asked me to do the warm up set. I cannot tell you how nervous I was!â€. Things really picked up from there with residencies at Substation and Crash, a gay club in Vauxhall reminiscent of the best New York's meat packing district had to offer. It was also there where Danny Newman, promoter of London's highly acclaimed club, Turnmills, was passed a copy of one of Tom's DJ mixes resulting in a new residency for the backroom straight away! This grew so big that Danny offered him his own night, and so hatched Roach, the infamous London night that ran every last Saturday of the month until Jan 2003. Now Tom is one of the hardest working dj’s in the industry flying all over the world to wow crowds with his music. Playing clubs the length and breadth of the world, he juggles his DJ commitments with his production and remix work while heading up his newly established label ChumboMundo. Both under his own name and under his Superchumbo moniker (Portuguese for “super- leadedâ€) he keeps scoring hit after hit filling up record boxes of every self-respecting dj in the industry. Tracks like ‘Irresistible’, ‘This Beat Is’, ‘Dirtyfilthy’ and his latest ‘Here I Come’ have all topped various charts. ‘The Revolution’ was declared Track of the Year by Pete Tong in 2001 and still counts as a classic. Furthermore he has worked his remix magic on both crossover and underground artists alike. Missy Elliot, Eric Morillo, Goldfrapp, Roger Sanchez, Kylie, Danny Tenaglia and Peace Division ( to name but a few) have all received the Superchumbo treatment at one point in time or another. Over the years his various Mix compilations allowed Tom to showcase his distinct sound and were received extremely well by clubbers. His last one – a joint project with Roger Sanchez as part of the Afterdark series on Stealth Records – which was released in the fall of 2005 and is still selling substantial numbers was an absolute smash. Despite the endless list of artists wanting a piece of the Superchumbo magic, original material is still Tom’s priority and 2005 saw the release of his debut artist album “Wowie Zowieâ€. Having released a string of Superchumbo singles, the last 3 reaching number one in the US Billboard Dance charts, Tom felt it was time for something new. “I wanted to expand on the Superchumbo sound and I felt that a full length album was the way to do that.†Wowie Zowie is the result of 2 years of production and features guests including Celeda, Neil Tennant, and Samantha Fox. What else do you expect from a man who says the two most played tracks on his iPod are “The Look of Love†by Dusty Springfield and “Stainless Steel Providers†by the Revolting Cocks!

He has also done over 20 mix compilations for the likes of Global Underground and Renaissance, been the main man behind the independent dance music labels, Stress Records and Audio Therapy and still found time to model for Levi's in Japan, present TV programmes for the BBC and tour the world probably more than any other DJ.

  8. ELITE FORCE HITS CLUB ID ON 2/15 sHack's Elite Force project began way back in 1996, debuting on his own newly founded Fused and Bruised label with a series of peerless 12s and remixes. After a successful five years,he put fused and bruised on the backburner to concentrate on production work, and following several years with Whole9Yards and Moonshine he has since become a mainstay recording artist for Adrift Recordings (formally known as Kingsize Records). Often credited for being a lynchpin in the developing the tech-funk genre (an amalgamation of breaks, house, techno and electro) he has released a series of highly successful singles in the past few years, finding broad support from DJs and musicians across the board, including the likes of James Zabiela, the Plump DJs, Laurent Garnier and Damian Lazarus. In addition to these solo singles, Meat Katie has been a regular collaborator with Elite Force, a relationship that had begun in 2003 with the massive-selling 'Toba'. As a remixer, Elite Force has always been in considerable demand, with re-workings for the likes of Grandmaster Flash, Crystal Method, Jungle Brothers, Stereo MCs, UNKLE, Infusion, Rennie Pilgrem, Shiloh and Dylan Rhymes all contributing to his reputation as one of the most creative and effective remixers around. On the decks, Elite Force has been a prime mover since 1990 when he cut his teeth playing huge student nights and self-promoted acid house nights in the South West of England, before moving up to London and ultimately gravitating towards his tech-funk style, with which he now has a full diary of global bookings and has become known as one of the top technicians on a circuit that has included massive shows in Hungary, Australia, Italy, USA, Czech Republic, India, Turkey, Spain, Japan and China, as well as numerous festival slots including Glastonbury and the Glade. His bi-weekly strongarm sessions webcasts have become something of an intraweb institution since their inception back in 2001, and the most recent archives should be your first stop if you've not come across the Force in action before Smile DISCOGRAPHY albums No Turning Back Whole9Yards Modern : Primitive (october 2006) Adrift 12" singles Mainframe Wrekka Fused & Bruised Cool Like The Man (Remixes) (12") Fused & Bruised Turf Wars Vol.1. 11. SERGE DEVANT @ AVALON FRIDAY When you’re personally hand picked to share the stage with the world’s top DJ’s including being tagged by DJ Tiesto himself to open and close for him in NYC, you’ve got something. Now armed with his new residency at Crobar, what he has is your attention. Hear him perform and you will witness a skillful exhibition from one of the most promising young talents in the electronic industry today…we are talking about Serge Devant. What makes Serge so distinctive? What makes his producing/DJ'ing skills so desirable? It’s the way he approaches the genre. Being classically trained in the piano for 8 years at the prestigious Music School of St. Petersburg in the old Soviet Union, he presents his music as he would a classical piece. He understands the power that well-orchestrated music has on human emotion and this shows in his high energy, suspenseful style of electronica. Before coming to America, as a child, Serge always had music infused into his daily life. His parents were deeply routed in the art community and enrolled Serge in music education at a young age. When he came to New York, it was the legendary club Twilo in the late nineties that inspired him to pursue his current quest. “The atmosphere…the energy…Twilo was a big influence on me in the late 90’s hearing different DJ’s from Europe†Serge recalls. He started DJ'ing locally and that eventually led to production. Channeling his immense musical background and combining it with his new found love for electronic music he began creating works that got attention. One of the people to spot Serge's talent was top trance diva vocalist Jan Johnston. Known for her works collaborating with the likes of BT, Paul Van Dyk and Tiesto, she was immediately impressed with Serge’s potential. In 2004 they got together to create the single “Transparent†which was signed to Armin Van Buren's label – Armada. The record was licensed and appeared on numerous compilations. The well respected UK label, Lost Language then sought out Serge’s ability for a string of singles. He completed mixes for Tilt and Lustral and released 3 vinyl EP’s. With this success, Lost Language asked him to mix their prestigious series of compilations under the name “Exhibition 3â€. “Exhibition 3†hit the stores in November of 2005 and included 3 CD’s. In early 2005, Crobar, one of the largest, most modern and award-winning clubs in North America, requested Serge to play with Tiesto. A few gigs after that and Serge became the clubs youngest resident DJ. To this day, Tiesto personally requests Serge to play with him each and every time he visits NYC. Now, Serge frequently shares the stage with half a dozen more of the worlds DJ elite. The new exposure allowed him to catch the eye of another talented diva, former Iio lead singer – Nadia Ali. Nadia, being impressed with Serge’s classical training, asked him to work on her upcoming album as well as some tour dates, lending his piano skills during performances. Serge gladly accepted the opportunity to express his abilities not only as a DJ but as a musician on stage. This is where Serge Devant is different. His works are stylistically diverse, transcending the boundaries of electronic music and breaking the barriers of expression. He’s been quoted as saying: "I get bored of doing the same style of music very quickly and usually when I sit down in the studio... I just start making what feels right at the moment... a certain bass line, guitar or chord progression could take my record anywhere and I let it take me there, and see what happens at the end". The result…A hard-hitting, riveting but classically beautiful sound that is way more than just “electronicâ€. So sit back and enjoy the ride…Welcome…to the music of Serge Devant.

  14. CEDRIC GERVAIS AT AVALON FRIDAY!!!! While the rest of us were chasing girls, laboring to get through school, or trying to sneak into clubs Cedric was already inside of them, busy becoming one of the top DJs in the world. Seems impressive, but I guess when you’re studying masters of the trade like Carl Cox and Laurent Garnier while the rest of the kids are studying math and science those kind of things aren’t too big of a deal. From these not so humble beginnings Cedric has carved himself a spot in the world of House Music that stretches from the South of France to South Beach. He has also taken the step into production, working with a wide variety of amazing artists while showing off his own formidable talents as well. With headlining spots around the world, as well as his own legendary residencies, Cedric has made a name for himself that will soon be on the lips of clubbers the world over. His first gig was a 3000 person rave in the South of France at 15 years old. A residency at Queen in Paris followed shortly thereafter and eventually he landed in Miami at the world-renowned Crobar where he became the hottest thing in South Beach. Cedric’s reign over the stylish and beautiful crowds on Washington Avenue lasted four years and spread down the road to Nikki Beach where his Indio Locco party put the recently opened outdoor/indoor club squarely on the map. In 2004 he moved downtown to his current home, the world famous Space in Miami. During his residency at Space he has played alongside the most famous DJs in the world on the main floor every Saturday night including Deep Dish, Roger Sanchez, and Sander Kleinenberg. Every Sunday morning at Space, he heads to the Terrace at 5 AM for his own special sets that last well into the afternoon. On the production tip Cedric has worked with all the top electronic talents and labels you can think of, from Peter Rauhoufer to Dirty Vegas to Second Sun as well as some giants in the world of rock. Along with sometime production partner Dallas Austin they created distinct sounds for Duran Duran’s Want You More while also remixing the track for the classic New Wavers. Even Lenny Kravitz clocked his skills and asked Cedric to remix two of his songs, Believe In Me and Stillness of the Heart while listening to him play in Miami. His original productions have been just as noteworthy; his first release Burning on Ultra Records made a huge mark and lead the top label to request a two-album deal. His debut artist album on the way is, Experiment due this summer. The first single, Spirit Of My Life released in April is already a staple in the sets of Erick Morillo, Seb Fontaine, Deep Dish and loads of other major DJs. In addition to his album, he had a hand in the biggest track of the 2006 WMC with his remix with Second Sun of Queen’s Another One Bites The Dust. This summer’s album tour will take him to Ibiza, London, across America, and around the world. His residency at Space will continue as well, providing a home for Cedric and his most diehard fans. Without a doubt Cedric Gervais has already achieved more than most top DJs could ever even hope for, but his reign is just beginning and he is sure to make even more noise with his music before long. Experiment will be released on July 11th on Ultra Records www.avalonboston.com 19+ info@avalonboston.com 6172622424 for Table Listings

  19. BAD BOY BILL @ AVALON THIS FRIDAY!!!!!!! Bad Boy Bill is in the mix and he's live Understand!" So goes one of the legendary chants of Chicago house icon Bad Boy Bill, who began name checking when he first started out on the radio to distinguish himself from the other DJs on the airwaves. Bill has come a long way from his days as a radio mix show DJ. On his belt hang the titles of DJ, Artist, Producer, Songwriter, and Entrepreneur. Not to mention three-time DMC FINALIST, 1998 Winter Music Conference MIXSHOW DJ OF THE YEAR, 1999 URB Magazine 2nd Place DJ OF THE YEAR, and this year's #1 FAVORITE DJ according to BPM Magazine. And now, after the success of the Bangin' In The Box series, Bill is upping the ante to deliver Behind the Decks, a new mix CD and DVD, on System Recordings. Hailed by DJ Magazine as "One of America's most popular and influential DJs," the renowned artist didn't grow up dreaming of making music in his youth, he thought he would perhaps pursue a career as a professional baseball player. But in high school, after joining a DJ crew with some of his neighborhood friends, Bill entered the world of DJ battles and party promotion. "My DJ style originated with the idea to remix a song live with two copies of the same record and then combine scratching and hip-hop techniques with house grooves." At only 16, his friend Julian "Jumpin" Perez, who deemed Bill "the dopest white kid he'd ever seen," stood Bill before prominent radio jockey Farley Jackmaster Funk at WGCI, and he began scratching and mixing the eight records he'd been practicing on for hours every day. Farley was so impressed he recruited Bill right then and there. After WGCI, Bill found himself on the airwaves again on Chicago's B96, and eventually broadened his skills, making his own tracks and starting his own record label while still a senior in high school. Nowadays, Bill averages over 150 DJ gigs annually, playing everywhere from New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles to international hotspots including Peru, Colombia, Germany, England, and Spain. Coming from a broad musical and cultural background, Bill cites numerous personal influences. "My grandfather was an opera singer so he was always into music, and was very supportive," he says. "My dad took me downtown to buy my first set of 1200s I will always thank him for that." Additionally influenced by the likes of motivational speaker Anthony Robbins and Chicago mix show DJs 'The Hot Mix 5', Bill notes, "Everything I hear affects every song I choose to play and the way I play it." And his inspiration? Spinning the crowd into a dancing frenzy with his lighting-quick mixes (often playing up to 20 records in the time the average DJ would mix in 5). "The payoff for me is seeing people dancing and having a great time during my set," he explains. And of course, another source of inspiration: the ladies (Bill was named the "Wilt Chamberlain of Techno" by Lotus Magazine). The new double disc release, Behind the Decks, delivers that famed Bad Boy Bill pumpin' house sound with his legendary scratching, a cappella, and turntable tricks, but also takes the entire live experience to a new level with DTS and Dolby 5.1 surround sound mixes and visuals. With this mix CD and two-hour DVD, Bill hopes his audience can finally "get a good picture of what I'm like and what I do." A perfectionist, Bill is always striving to expand and improve upon what he's done before. And Bill feels this new mix is doing just that moving forward, progressing and growing. "My musical style is constantly evolving. I used to spin deep house, acid house, hip house, freestyle, techno, and the list goes on. My sound today is what it is based on the music I have heard or made prior," Bill says. Smiling, he adds, "My personal style has changed as well, from Underoos to Wranglers, Jordache to parachute pants, and then all the way to Snug and Prada." In spite of all of his accomplishments, Bad Boy Bill remains modest, levelheaded and positively motivated about his direction. "I am always thinking about the future." Working in the studio up to 14-16 hours some days, Bill continues to push the boundaries, both with Behind The Decks as well as his next endeavour: his artist album. You can catch Bad Boy Bill live and "Behind The Decks" as the BTD tour rolls through a city near you because Bad Boy Bill is "in the mix and he's live - Understand!" www.avalonboston.com info@avalonboston.com 19+

  23. Cedric Gervais will be spinning Avalon This Friday!!! BIO While the rest of us were chasing girls, laboring to get through school, or trying to sneak into clubs Cedric was already inside of them, busy becoming one of the top DJs in the world. Experiment will be released on July 11th on Ultra Records 19+ Event Part of AVALAND www.avalonboston.com info@avalonboston.com
