  2. Giant Step presents Marques Wyatt – FREE!! Hudson Series #21 of 24 Monday, November 17, 2008 Hudson Hotel, New York NY Giant Step's Hudson Series** has been extended for 4 more events, through to the end of December 2008! FREE with RSVP http://www.giantstep.net/events/1041 In the mid '80s, at a time when the shape shifting of house music was rarely heard outside Chicago and New York, Marques Wyatt introduced the East Coast sound to his native Los Angeles via legendary house parties like BBC, MAC's Garage and Does Your Mama Know, to name a few. In the ensuing years, his prowess as a talented DJ, promoter, and producer earned him recognition as one of the most sought-after artists in the genre, domestically and internationally. Always true to his inner visionary, Marques continued his ventures into uncharted territory by introducing Los Angeles to "acid jazz" through Brass, his unforgettable weekly which debuted the live performances of high profile acts such as Jamiroquai and the Brand New Heavies way back when. At the same time, Marques continued playing his own brand of uncompromising, soulfully organic house alongside talents such as Frankie Knuckles, Louie Vega, David Morales, Danny Tenaglia, King Britt, Mark Farina and Miguel Migs. Marques's keen sixth sense for creating epic parties culminated in his weekly house institution, Deep, now going strong in its tenth year. Marques has also channeled his gifts in the studio, releasing tracks and remixes on revered labels like Om, Strictly Rhythm, King Street, Nervous and Yoshitoshi. **Hudson parties are held fortnightly on Mondays. FREE with RSVP http://www.giantstep.net/events/1041

  4. José James' The Dreamer Album Release Party http://www.giantstep.net/events/890 Giant Step Presents Brownswood Sessions 3: José James' The Dreamer Album Release Party In this special edition of the Brownswood Sessions, Giant Step is proud to present the release party of José James' debut album The Dreamer (out on Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Recordings Jan. 28th). José will perform his entire album live! Armed with an EP of demos, including a blazing vocal cut of John Coltrane's 'Equinox' and an impressive self-penned song aptly entitled "The Dreamer," José James met up with Blacktronica's Charlie Dark and at Cargo managed to slip a copy of the EP to Gilles Peterson. At twenty eight, José has pursued the jazz grail and is currently tour ing Europe before returning to the US for the Brownswood Sessions. A towering if as yet little-known talent, pianist Elan Mehler has a compositional touch and style that has seen his work declared reminiscent of greats from Bill Evans to Claude Debussy. Now signed to Brownswood Recordings, Elan recently released his Scheme for Thought LP, a lullaby-like, intimate and elevated affair. DJ Moni began collecting vinyl at the age of nine - once her parents bought her a turntable after moving to the US from Colombia. The Caribbean and African rhythms she grew up with were met with the bass-heavy electro, hip hop and new wave sounds of the early eighties. In April 2007, Moni was part of the Giant Step roster at the Winter Music Conference with acts like Gilles Peterson, Jazzanova, Simbad and Kruder & Dorfmeister. She has been impressing music lovers and filling dancefloors as part of the all-female DJ crew, Ubiquita. Join Giant Step, the Brownswood crew, and special guests Ge-ology and Junior Mance for the third installment of the Brownswood Sessions.
