  1. Mo7s Will Be Joining Kares And I To Play Some Hide & Seek!
  2. LOL........I was just simply sharing my opinion regarding properly crediting artists and charging money for unlicensed cd's. I suppose I have some steam behind those feelings with years of working in a record store, etc etc. Regardless, my only mission is to support and save EDM. Oh and party like it's 1985.......
  3. KING UNIQUE WILL BE IN AXIS FOR THE NIGHT! woop!
  4. holy press pack... www.myspace.com/kingunique
  5. King Unique = Dirty House That’s all you need to know. King Unique = Dirty House You need details? OK, let’s get started… King Unique are two guys called Matt who make rough-edged dirty house music, Matthew Roberts and Matt “Watkins” Thomas, a pair of studio junkies with a taste for bulldozer beats and sick synthesizers. Over the last five years their records, remixes and re-edits have hit home with house-heads, nu-ravers and electro-rockers alike, being championed by everyone from Sasha to Soulwax, Danny Howells to Tiesto, and Pete Tong to Zane Lowe. Their music has turned up everywhere from Hollywood soundtracks to mobile ringtones, not to mention countless compilations and mix albums. Their decks’n’fx DJ sets have made them regulars in some of the world’s most respected clubs and biggest festivals, while the "King Unique Broadcast" radio mix series regularly airs to countries across the globe. 2006 has seen them starting their own residency, "Curfew Time" at London's Turnmills, bringing Loud Electronic Dirt to the capital. King Unique hit the floor running in 2001, claiming the title of Undisputed Remix Champs by scoring five Essential New Tunes in five months on Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1 show. The King Unique sound has been in constant demand since, appearing on dozens of remixes including King Dong sized floor-fillers such as Underworld’s “Two Months Off”, Las Vegas rockers The Killers’ “Somebody Told Me”, Planet Funk’s “The Switch”, Mutiny’s “The Virus”, Jamiroquai’s “You Give Me Something”, The Freemasons’ "Love On My Mind", Luke Slater’s “Nothing At All”, and Chable and Bonicci’s “Ride”. Most recently King Unique have reworked Teamsters "Feels Like Love", Mish Mash's "Speechless", and Suicide Sports Club's “I Don't Know”. The productions make for an equally impressive line-up; "Dirty", "Sugarhigh", "Lighters" and new cut "Flashing Lights". “Obscene, dirty, filthy, immoral” set out the King Unique agenda on “Dirty” by Dirty, the first of a series of singles released on Junior Boys Own. Next they raised the stakes with “Sugarhigh”, a track dreamt up in a tiny techno bar in Tokyo whilst under the influence of too much vodka and too little sleep. A melodic powerhouse of a track that fused classic house and melodic Detroit vibes, “Sugarhigh” gave KU a sixth Essential New Tune. The next King Unique single “Lighters/Music Please” followed in early 2003 and saw KU experimenting with new sounds. “Lighters” poured out a relentless cascade of slow and heavy electro-house that “sound like it’s raining synthesizers on your head” (Mixmag), while the DJ-friendly “Music Please” delivered a slice of psychedelic breakbeats favoured by Danny Tenaglia and James Zabiela. KU closed 2005 with “Flashing Lights/Curfew Time” another double A-side release. "Flashing Lights" is a big room grunge-house monster with a dumb bass line that’d make The Kinks proud; “Curfew Time” kicks out a spiky slab of riff-house, then throws in a jungle-flavoured break down of Amazonian proportions. (The full list of more than 40 releases can be found on the Trax page) King Unique's renowned DJ sets have made them regular names in the world's biggest clubs and festivals, playing everywhere from ultra-hip blacked-out sweat boxes in Tokyo to euphoric crowds of thousands on the tropical beaches of Madeira. Since their first shows in 2001 they have consistently blown minds (and speakers), bringing more than just record boxes into the DJ booth. By packing their studio into a pair of laptops, KU are able to re-edit and re-work any track on the fly, creating a four-armed, twin-headed, single-minded mash up of CDs, custom made re-edits and live samples. End result? You may know some of the records, but you won't have heard them sound like this before. This hotly demanded sound has made it’s mark at all the best UK clubs; Turnmills (home to KU's own "Curfew Time" nights), Tribal Sessions, Renaissance, The End, Ministry Of Sound, Godskitchen and Lush. Worldwide demand for the King Unique sound has seen them playing Tokyo, Paris, Reykjavik, Amsterdam, Malta, Moscow, Athens, Auckland, Bucharest, Singapore, Sydney, Milan, Kiev, Buenos Aires, etc.... (you get the picture). Not forgetting the festivals; the huge Skol Beats in Brazil, the UK's Global Gathering, Weekenddance in Madeira and the renowned Exit festival in Serbia amongst others. On the very few days they aren’t making tracks in the studio or diving into DJ booths the Matts can be found chopping up the very latest cool and dirty music from across the globe, reassembling it into the "King Unique Broadcast" radio mix series. Broadcast through an ever increasing network of stations from Argentina to Iceland, these are no ordinary radio mixes; each KU Broadcast features dozens of tracks, with single tunes built from pieces of three or four different records, cut up and re-assembled into exclusive King Unique edits and mash-ups. Many of the biggest tunes in King Unique's DJ sets started life as tracks for the KU Broadcast shows; the re-edit of Mylo's "In My Arms" that was picked up for the single release, and "Big Dirty Dreams" that mashed up the Martini Bros with the Human League. Despite huge support for the track from Soulwax, Tiga and Erol Alkan it proved impossible to clear "Big Dirty Dreams" for release - guaranteeing it legendary status. DJs eh? Many more custom made edits and mash-ups are locked away in the King Unique vaults; the Nine Inch Nails and LCD Soundsystem collision of "Nine Inches Of Love", Tiefschwarz and Soulwax butting heads on "Any Muthafucking Excuse" and Alter Ego doing battle with Midnight Mike to create "Hot In The Bush" - to name just a few. So that's the first five years, not a bad start. What are King Unique cooking up next? King Unique = Dirty House That’s all you need to know.

  10. ABOVE & BEYOND ABOVE AND BEYOND are producers Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness and Paavo Sijamki. Collectively they have been responsible for some of the world's biggest club tracks over the last few years and now rank among the most respected trance producers globally, with a number of successful projects including OCEANLAB, FREESTATE, TRANQUILITY BASE, POS, NITROMETHANE and DIRT DEVILS. After building a strong reputation through remix work for acts like Adamski and Dario G, Above and Beyond's major breakthrough came when their spec mix of Madonna's single "What It Feels Like For A Girl" was accepted. In fact, Madge was so impressed with their version that she decided to shoot a video to the Above & Beyond mix instead of the album version! The infamous video was directed by husband Guy Ritchie. Since then the guys have been busy dishing out the remix treatment to high profile acts like DELERIUM, THREE DRIVES and Japanese superstar AYUMI HAMASAKI, whose last album sold 5 million copies in Japan alone. The buzz around Above & Beyond also reached the US, where a remix of ARMIN VAN BUUREN's 'The Sound of Goodbye' enjoyed major radio play and hit No.1 in the Billboard Dance Chart late In 2002. "Far From In Love" represented the first solo offering under the Above & Beyond name. Heavily supported by Dave Pearce/Judge Jules on Radio 1 and Armin Van Buuren on ID&T, the track has attained anthem status among the group's many fans and has been licensed to the likes of Media Records and ID+T internationally. Far From In Love unites an emotive vocal with Above & Beyond's trademark angelic strings and melodies, the band are currently working on a follow up. Other classic tracks to emerge from the Above and Beyond collective include OCEANLAB's "Clear Blue Water" and "Sky Falls Down", TRANQUILITY BASE "Razorfish" and DIRT DEVILS "The Drill", one of clubland's biggest anthems in 2002. Amid the busy production schedule, the boys have also found time to establish and run two successful record labels, with Anjunabeats and Hard On Recordings both enjoying a solid following from the world's most influential DJs. OPENING DUTIES RESPECTFULLY SUPPLIED BY RESIDENT: ELI WILKIE (Reversible Records, Agent001, Avalon Boston, USA) For guestlist please send names to groundcontrolgirls@yahoo.com
  11. TENSION PROUDLY PRESENTS THE MASS AVE. MASSACRE!!! WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 25TH @ TENSION *HALLOWEEN PARTY WITH MEAT KATIE!!!* (COSTUMES ARE ENCOURAGED!) PRESALES AVAILABLE AT THE PHOENIX LANDING NOW! MEAT KATIE (MOIST, ADRIFT, LOT49,TCR, WWW.MEATKATIE.COM, UK) Despite the confusing alias Meat Katie is actually a man, and in particular a man named Mark Pember from Kingston (Surrey, UK). He also happens to be one the most influential DJs and producers of the last ten years when it comes to dance music. Heavily immersed in hip hop and b-boy culture as a youngster (a teenage Pember was an accomplished graffiti artist) his passion for deconstructing music and examining it’s core elements is something that has built his career from the ground up. The deconstruction of Hip Hop’s sample based productions led to a fascination with funk, soul and jazz which in turn ignited a passion to learn to play an instrument. The appeal of the bass guitar won through and by the age of 17 he was playing in his first band, Trafalgar. His first experience of heavy touring (something which has stood him in good stead for his current schedule) was with Sandladder, a band which was signed to Iggy Pop’s Kill City imprint, but while doing this the draw of the burgeoning acid house scene was exerting it’s influence on Mark. When Sandladder split Pember and a friend of his who owned a sampler started sampling breaks from his now large funk collection which led to the creation of a new band, Ceasefire. Comprising Pember, Derek Dahlarge and Jason O’Brian (who Mark subsequently did an album with for R&S) Ceasefire signed to Wall Of Sound and had a hit with “Trickshot” at the height of the big-beat explosion. Pember, however, left the band afterwards and created his Meat Katie alias. The first of the Meat Katie output was released on Kingsize and was (and still is) the perfect combination of Pember’s dual loves, house and breakbeat. His house music contains the rough, gritty elements of breakbeat while his breakbeat takes the grooves and hypnotic vibe of house music. It doesn’t stop there, though, with Mark also taking cues from electro and techno too. With two albums (“Off The Bone” and “Long To Belong”) and over 11 singles on Kingsize as well as releases on Mantra, Saw and Bedrock receiving plaudits from DJs, Press and fans whatever their genre bias, Pember has been credited with opening up the previously insular breaks scene with his unique brand of “tech-funk”. A love of collaborative work has seen Pember work with Arthur Baker, Justin Drake (Peace Division), Dylan Rhymes, Elite Force, Roland Clarke, Aquasky, Holly Golightly and Kurt Wagner among others while his magical touch with remixes has graced the likes of Deep Dish, Stefan K, Unkle, Serge Santiago and Phil Kieran over the years. Clearly not one for slacking, Mark also ran the hugely successful (and again, genre bending) Whole 9 Yards imprint before leaving to start his Lot49 label in 2004 – no mean feat considering he DJs the world over each and every weekend of the year. Pember’s third artist album ‘Vibrator’ is released on Adrift Records. A mix of breaks, house, electro and techno it is a true reflection of his Dj style. The album features collaborations from artists including D Ramirez, Katherine Ellis, Aquasky, Jono Fernandez and Elite Force. He has also taken to the road with reknown video jockey VJ Anyone to provide the ‘Vibrator’ AV show which has been receiving rave reviews.
  12. THIS WEEK WE PROUDLY WELCOME TO THE CONTROLS!!! CHRIS CARTER (Record Records | TCR | Forged | Botchit & Scarper | London, UK) Musician, Producer and DJ, Chris Carter learned his engineering skills while at the legendary ON U SOUND working with the likes of Adrian Sherwood, Little Axe, Asian Dub Foundation, Audio Active and Bim Sherman. Since starting to produce his own music in 1997, he has had a steady stream of releases on a number UK based breaks labels. Jointly responsible (with BLIM) for one of the break scene’s biggest vocal tracks (as Kasha on ’U’, featuring Shara Nelson) he has since had releases on TCR, Botchit + Scarper, Forged, En:Vision, Secret Agent and Track Records amongst others, earning him a reputation as a master of well-crafted dancefloor tunes. His tracks have been included on compilations such as the ‘Botchit Breaks’ albums, ’Modernizm’ mixed by BLIM, ‘Nu Breed’ mixed by Lee Burridge, Y4K mixed by Koma&Bones, TCR50, 'Tribalizm' mixed by Rennie Pilgrem and Meat Katie’s Bedrock Breaks. In 2004 a mix CD of his own, 'Apply The Breaks' was released on Botchit, showcasing upcoming material drawn only from that label. Remix work includes tracks for Forged, Botchit, Cup of Chi, En:Vision, Passenger and most recently as Roxiller on Sober Records. In 2005 he has co-established the Record Records label, intended as as outlet for his own material, as well as Roxiller - his joint studio project with JHz - and other future collaborations. Roxiller have also recently contributed music for the new Sony PSP game 'Wipeout'. Chris has now established himself as a popular DJ and has toured all over Europe aswell as the USA, Japan and Australia. His mixes have been heard on radio stations such as Radio1, Kiss, Ministry, Groovetech and stations across Europe. DJ fans of Carter include Rennie Pilgrem, BLIM, Laurent Garnier, Adam Freeland, Meat Katie, Hybrid, and Koma + Bones to name but a few. 18. Seven artist albums and 15 hit singles. That says it all. Piet Blank and Jaspa Jones have been hugely important in the history of electronic music. It all started in 1997 with their debut single Sunrise, the first step towards producing their own tracks. Nowadays, one cannot imagine the electronic elite without BLANK & JONES. 13 of their singles made it into the German Top 50, and three into the Top 20. Each and every album hit the Top 50, including two which climbed into the Top 10. They also scored a spectacular triple whammy by occupying the Top Ten album, singles and compilation charts simultaneously with Substance, Desire and The Mix respectively. BLANK & JONES have teamed up with a number of top international stars in their career to date. The Cure mastermind Robert Smith, Anne Clark, Sarah McLachlan and Claudia Brücken (Propaganda) have been immortalized on BLANK & JONES tracks, giving them a certain credibility way beyond the boundaries of dance music. Further evidence of their versatility can be seen in their contributions to the Café del Mar compilation series and their own chill-out albums, Relax and Relax (Edition 2). Next up, the people behind the Buddha Bar series have also made enquiries.. The release of the A Forest single and the accompanying album Monument in the USA last year also laid the foundations for BLANK & JONES to create a solid fanbase across the Atlantic. Seven albums, 3 mix albums (The Mix 1-3) and 15 singles later, BLANK & JONES and their longstanding production collegue Andy Kaufhold have chosen this moment to collate their finest material on one release - The Singles. Comprising the best tracks and greatest successes of BLANK & JONES plus two brand new tracks, recorded exclusively for this album. “We felt the time had come to put all our singles together on one CD, “ Piet and Jaspa explain. “We prefer to see it as one step along the way, rather than a mere retrospective. A litlle breather before we move on to pastures new.“ Over 20 tracks were in the reckoning for The Singles collection, most of them penned by BLANK & JONES themselves. From the first single Sunrise via chart smashes such as Desire, DJ Culture and Beyond Time all the way to entrancing collaborations with the like of Elles DeGraaf on Mind Of The Wonderful, Claudia Brücken on Unknown Treasure and Steve Kilbey (The Church) on Revealed, the album is packed with original material. One of the few covers is, of course, A Forest with Robert Smith of The Cure on vocals. BLANK & JONES have taken the utmost care in getting the sound right. Tracks have been remastered but not remixed. “Our aim was to retain the flair of each original track“ Piet and Jaspa elucidate. “We wanted them to sound just as they did when we made them, but clearer, in the same way as one restores a painting. You don’t paint it from scratch, you just bring out the colours again.“ Such loving attention to detail is typical of BLANK & JONES, making them the artists they are today, ready and able to see the bigger picture.
