  3. September in New York is always a peculiar time, when we come to term with the end of the summer season, tentatively grasping for a couple more days at the beach and possibly a last getaway weekend in Fire Island. But there’s no escaping the implacable march of time, and even the most die hard vacationers will soon have to give up, as the last beats of the final Tea Dance of the season fade into silence, and our summer paradise inexorably sink into a state of hibernation. To warm up our hearts, and remember the time when summer and all its infinite possibilities were about to unfold, let’s dig up this recording of Junior Vasquez annual Memorial Day bash at Cielo, from May 24, 2009. The mix is an unmistakable blend of pounding tribal beats and soaring anthemic tunes laced with uplifting vocals, arranged in typical Junior fashion. So let’s close our eyes, throw our hands in the air and let the words of Diana Ross’ “Take Me Higher†bring us back to a time when summer was still young and the sun was shining high in the sky… Download Junior Vasquez recorded live at Cielo on Memorial Day 2009. http://www.queenofnewyork.com/download/Junior%20Vasquez%20Live%20at%20Cielo%20-%20Memorial%20Day%202009.mp3

  9. Junior Vasquez recorded live at Pavilion in Fire Island on Sunday July 26, 2009 At the break of dawn, on a foggy Sunday morning on the beach of Fire Island, a light summer rain began to fall, washing away the remnants of the Pines Party festivities. Dazed from a long night of partying, many day trippers converged to the harbor to wait for the providential ferry to haul them back to solid ground. Meanwhile, the bravest souls were making their way to the hollowed Pavilion night club, where Junior Vasquez was about to take the helm and keep the party going until the early hours of Sunday afternoon. For those – like us – who were not valiant enough to stay for Junior’s after party, here is the full recording of the set he played at Pavilion, in the morning of Sunday July 26. The mix ends with a stellar Whitney megamix, featuring Junior’s own mix of the divas latest track “I didn’t know my own strengthâ€. As usual, we’re sending a big shout out to Darren Kawa for digging up this tape. http://www.queenofnewyork.com/download/Junior%20Live%20at%20Pavilion%20July%2025th%202009.mp3

  16. Junior Vasquez Live @ Arena/Palladium - August 1997 Download a rare and exclusive 5 hour set of Junior Vasquez recorded in August 1997 live from Arena, the legendary afterhours party held at the Palladium nightclub in New York. By his own admission, Arena was Junior’s favorite residency and it has come to represent the heyday of New York’s nightlife. The grandiose club, richly decorated with murals by famous contemporary artists like Keith Haring or Jean Michel Basquiat, belonged to the empire of Peter Gatien, who also owned the notorious Limelight. It became Junior’s third residency, after Bassline and Soundfactory, and he developed there a very distinct style of music, taking the wild pitch sound from his Soundfactory days into a more dramatic and anthemic direction. He produced some of his most emblematic remixes during his residency at Arena, such as Deborah Cox “Who Do You Love”, Skunk Anansie “Weep”, Elton John “Rocketman”, Dolly Parton’s “Peace Train”, Cher’s “The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore” and many more. The club closed its door in September 1997. The building was sold to NYU and then demolished to make room for a dorm.We thank dearly our friend Christopher Aviance for sharing with us this rare and amazing recording of a night at Arena. Enjoy this 5 hour mix of Junior Vasquez live at Arena. http://www.queenofnewyork.com/download/junior%20vasquez%20live%20at%20arena%20-%20august%201997.mp3 http://twitter.com/djjuniorvasquez http://www.myspace.com/officialjuniorvasquez http://www.facebook.com/pages/Junior...ez/14155226329 http://www.new.facebook.com/group.php?gid=29887720590
