Went to Footwork bar last night to check out the Freestylers in action. Turns out breaks and live performances were not on the menu. The first hour was top 40 house, mostly hard house, with a few big beat dance hits randomly thrown in (such as Chemical Brothers and Prodigy). As a long time breaks and Freestylers fan, my shock and disappointment was immense. After about an hour and a half of sitting and waiting to see what could possibly come next, a pre-recorded mash-up of a long list of Freestylers tracks was "played," which skipped through each track at about 5 to 10 second intervals -- sounding something like one was quickly sampling through his MP3 collection of Freestylers on iTunes. Following this, some popular drum and bass tracks were played. In all, I left the set early with a frown that could reach the floor.
