why should we care if famous people die? (off topic)

Recommended Posts

big deal lopez died while on vacation. what about all the millions of kids that die of poverty or because there moms have aids or are crackheads. its sad that she died but honestly it seems a bit fucked up to cry over someone none of us knew. just my oppinion. its not like she was princess diana or mother theresa.

...alls i gotta say is WOW...heartless is an understatement...

glorification in death is incorrect

excessive emotion over the death of a star is incorrect

lacking compassion in the death of anyone - esp. someone that did not touch your life - well, that seems to be an outright sin...

bring on the karmic consequences...

I really don't think were meant to cry when we find out that someone famous dies. It's just announced so that everyone knows, just the same way hollywood weddings are passed on tv so are their funerals.

Lopez's death didn't personally touch my life but i'm sure that there are people out there who looked up to her for some reason or another but in any case it's still sad to hear of someone so young passing away in such a trajic manner.

I wasn't personally affected by Lisa's death.. but there were many people who were. I'm sure Lisa had many fans out there in the world.. as did all of the other famous people that have died and had their deaths announced in the media. I don't think the media expects us to mourn the famous people that die, they are just announcing it because famous people are known across the world. You dont have to care, but a lot of people do.

just because you dont feel like its the biggest tragedy doesnt mean you are heartless. all im saying is that shes just one out of the millions of people who die everyday and just because she was famous that doesnt mean her death is ne more important than anyone else. everyone who dies has people that love them but not everyones death is broadcasted all over the place.

I could give two shits about her death.

When Elvis, John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, and Jim Morrison died, people cried. But these people changed lives, they inspired so many great musicians, poets, and painters is unimaginable.

What really disapoints me is Layne Staley, the lead singer for Alice in Chains died the week before and his death made CNN in 60 seconds. Lopez died and it has been plastered on the news. And the only reason is because Alice in Chains didn't sell as many records as TLC.

. . it's all about what we aspire to be as a society . . . our entertainers are our elites, a symbol of everything that people have formulated as "American" and "right" (as in correct, not as in right wing) . . . We put sports stars and entertainers on a pedistal because they give us respite from our ordinary "dreary" lives, and that respite we cherish above all else . . .

. . A child dies in the street and it's a statistic, because as we all know, it's easier to dismiss poverty and reality as too painful and complex, therefore being of little mention . . except to the talking heads on TV in the scope of sensationalism . . .

. . . Lisa "Left eye" Lopez was a symbol of the all dancing , not caring epitome of American society . . . and until we get a wakeup call, we will grieve for others like her every time . . . In the Society of Pop, all others are false idols . . .

. . sad, but true . . .

1. famous people never die.....they are immortal:D

2. who the hell is lisa lopez? she is not that famous - if she was a TLC singer, that doesn't make her comparable to 'real stars'

What about the real "famous" people who die, like the police officers, fireman, military men/woman? Unless the die in a large amount, like the WTC, they get a small spot on a channel or two, and after that, nothing else is really said.

It's said how our society judge's so called "famous" people based on their culture statis and how much money they make.

Just like in Bronx Tale "I hate Bill Mazaroski, he made the Mic Cry...Did Mickey Mantle pay your bills?"

Did Lisa Lopez, Princess Di, and all the other "famous" people pay my bills? No, so, for me, just another name in the newspaper.

i totally agree....those *sport celebrities* are just jocks running around....and they get more money than scientists who discover medicine for serious diseases, for example...it's just another sad example of what commercialised *culture* does to value-judgement.....
