One of the highlights of the DEMF lineup

announcement has been the unveiling of the festival

poster, the 2002 edition of which is shown above.

This year's image is the work of Edward Birtulescu,

a 29-year-old native of Romania who now lives in

Clinton Township.

A graduate of the Center for Creative Studies and

former designer for General Motors Corp.,

Birtulescu was asked to submit a poster after an

admirer passed along some of his other work to

festival producer Pop Culture Media. His striking

image of a robotic DJ -- with the Detroit skyline as a

background -- was created entirely on computer.

"This means a lot to me. It's a big break," Birtulescu

says. "I'm happy that people will be able see it. I'm

happy and I can do something for Detroit . . . to put

it on the map as a city full of artists and people

getting together at the DEMF."

ANGRY TECHNO ROBOTS ARE NOT

WHAT I WOULD HAVE CHOSEN...

On second thoughts the more I talk to

technophiles the more I think there must

be some EVIL TECHNO scientist implanting

"PROGRAMED" TECHNO ANGER in the scene!

Nevertheless...

Check out this not so angry

DEMF messageboard for ongoing

AFTER HOURS 411 and the over all Detroit SCOOP!
