The engines in the earlier beetles were porsche engines. Not the super hold you nuts porsche engines, but the regular 4cyl, without turbo and the tranies are not as good either. Also the very rare VW Presseda (I think is the name) has the same engine as porsche Carre 4, but doesn't come with a turbo, but you can buy the aftermarket turbo-charger and that VW is 4WD and 4WS, and it can run circles around the carre in street racing. But after you put the turbo charger on the VW, you will have a car worth somewhere in the neighborhood of $85,000. I think I am going to get two.
