t0nythelover
oh man i just finished watching dick cheney give a speech about the reasons for a war in iraq. according to cheney:1.saddam may attempt to get nuclear weapons and may trie to blackmail the united states.2.saddam has made a "science" out of deceit3.saddam shoots at us pilots4.the consequence of action is less than that of the consequence of inactionok, so this was just on cnn, those were the exact captions. since when are we allowed to make war because someone "may" pose a threat. hey tommorrow we can say that mexico may be a threat and take over mexico. this is such bullshit. its obvious that there is no compelling reason for starting a war right now. for years weve had no problems with iraq, and there is no proof that iraq has nukes. hell saddaam has invited in weapons inspectors. its insane to go right into war without talking shit out first. we can easily disarm iraq without a war, and a regime change, we do not have the right to force another nation into a regime change just because we benefit from it. whatever happened to ethics, might does not make right. bush just wants a war cuz it makes him look like a good president. on top of that the war economy will boost production making jobs, which will make bush look like he fixed the economy. this war will benefit the men on top at the cost of the lives of our soldiers needlessly. we need not shed the blood of our sons and brothers for the political gain one man. igloo
I am not saying I disagree with you completely, as I still do not have a comfort level one way or the other on the Iraqi war issue BUT this particular point does have merit:4.the consequence of action is less than that of the consequence of inactionOne thing you have to think about- with all the talk of what could have been done to prevent 9/11 and the famous "what Bush knew" crusade, isn't it then possible that a pre-emptive strike does have validity, and could minimize the risk of another attack against the U.S. with WMD? While going to war over "potential threat" or "may have capacity" is tough to swallow, perhaps if prior to 9/11 this was a thought process, the US could have proactively went after Al-Qaeda. tribal
agree with you that our democracy is basically a SIG-ogracy. not sure if the founding fathers would approve.regarding iraq. the war is inevitable, the projected offensive is in october, with a massive US air bombardment of iraqi military targets, followed by a marine assault on 2-4 fronts. unless something like another 9/11 happens, we are going to war boys n girls.
