SAN DIEGO -- A cross-border ring that produced and distributed massive amounts of the drug ketamine, known on the rave circuit as Special K, has been broken up and its leaders arrested, officials said Wednesday.

After a two-year investigation and raids in the United States and Mexico, authorities arrested seven people and made some of the largest seizures ever of ketamine.

The drug, an animal tranquilizer that became popular among people for its hallucinatory effects, is also known as vitamin K, Super K and Kit Kat. Ketamine also has been used as a date-rape drug.

The investigation began in Simi Valley, after police arrested a suspect on suspicion of selling the drug in a health club. From there, investigators picked up a trail that led to a pharmaceutical manufacturing firm in Morelos, Mexico, called Laboratorios Ttokkyo and a Tijuana-based veterinary business called Granero de Oro, authorities said.

The federal indictment announced this week charges that Jorge Chevreuil Bravo, owner of Granero de Oro, and Dr. Francisco Molino, head of Ttokkyo, used an Internet Web site to sell ketamine to distributors across the United States. Neither man was authorized to export pharmaceuticals, but authorities said their network was believed to be responsible for 70% to 80% of the drug used illegally in the United States.

Authorities executed search warrants in New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Boston and San Diego. In Kansas, they seized 23,000 vials of the drug. Authorities in Mexico seized another 200,000 vials last week. The drug, which was declared a controlled substance by the U.S. government in 1999, is typically sold on the street in 10-millimeter vials for between $50 and $100 a vial, said Assistant U.S. Atty. Timothy Coughlin. In Southern California, authorities seized more than $500,000 in cash.

Bravo and Molino were arrested in Panama and transported to Miami in September. They will eventually be moved to San Diego, Coughlin said.

Three of the 10 indicted remain at large. The indictment charges the 10 with participating in a conspiracy to import and distribute ketamine, conspiracy to launder money, and possession of ketamine with intent to distribute. Bravo also is charged with engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise.

Id say it was the K. Ive been using E for close to 7 years regularly now and the only time I get effects like that is when I binge through a few liq's of K.

I binged on E heavily (blew a good $2500) for like six months, ending it on new years and replaced it with K for another few months, and now I get to sit back and see the damage it's done.

I haven't done much of either since around March or April, and I still have whacked out vision that gets worse when I do either.

E worsens the dot/static/haze vision and K seems to contribute to any kind of image persistance (tracers and afterimages off shit that doesn't even put off light).

I can look at a dart board, pop my eyes off it and see the dart board still for a short second.

I've always been of the mind that it's not so much how much of the drug you do that messes you up, but how long you stay fucked up. I'm sure a five day K binge didn't really help, but umm you live you learn..

I don't have any problems with visions or tracers. Neither do my crackhead freinds who do K everyday still. It could be a whole number of things. You should stop by a hospital and get a MRI. I've met a lot of people in rehab that have permanent brain damage as well as people who are slowly recovering their health. I don't want to scare anybody, but nothing in life is free. Every time you use, you pay the price down the line. Just because you don't see the damage you cause now, doesn't mean that you got away with getting high. While you don't see all the sick people dancing in clubs while they are young, you see them in rehab and the hospitals wishing they could all get a second chance and not use again.

Again, I am not trying to scare anybody. God knows, I was/am a crackhead and sniffed K everyday for 4 years straight. I am the last person to lecture anybody about a habit. But if you are seeing shit, that is not a good thing and you should definitly have that checked before god forbid you can't see anything at all. Good luck.

The permatracers are a common side effect of too many psychedelics, so my bet would be the E and not the K, but I really don't know.

Does smoking pot make them worse?

Most people who have them say they slowly get better (sometimes years :( )

It really is your mind picking out paterns in what it sees. There isn't too much to wory about besides being anoyed. there are some good articles at Erowid.org or Shroomery.org, cant remember wich.

The cure seems to be to ignore it until you forget about it. Severe cases may lead to social anxiety, in which Paxil and Xoloft are often prescribed.

EVAN - What about depersonalization? I know that K had to have fucked me up somehow. I feel like half the individual I used to be. I feel like a fucking drone now. And that's on good days.

Things get better when I avoid all drug use, and any drug use seems to kick me back a couple months in the recovery process. I know I probably am loooking at permanent brain damage, but that doesn't scare me; I managed to stop before I made myself a non-functioning vegetable of society.

Can anyone give me a ballpark estimate on an MRI?

If you have insurance, the MRI shouldn't cost anything over an average doctor's visit. If you don't have insurance, get Medicaid or something. MRIs are expensive for the uninsured.

I don't know about depersoanlization. I feel empty sometimes. I sometimes get woozy or lightheaded. Also, a weird thing is if I do cheat and use, even for 1 day, the next day I'll go through withdrawal. I'll usually lay on my bed shivering going though hot and cold flashes as well as feeling very tired. After about an hour I feel fine again. Shit is scary.

Right now, the only permanent (or semi permenet hopefuly) damage that I have noticed is to my bladder. K has given me a number of Urinary Tract Infections as well as Gastritis. All that has cleared up, but I need to pee at least every 1-2 hours. I wake up 3-4 times thoughout the night to piss. I know a girl that has to pee every 15-20 minutes...and she's been clean for a year.

The symptom that has 100% cleared up was my penile disfunction (yeah yeah..laugh all u want..I couldn't get it hard all the time) Luckily there was Viagra, but that kinda ruined the moment while we were waiting for it to kick in. I must have lost at least 20 girls that I went to bed with because we had been bumping right before. In the end, I kinda made a rule, that if I knew I was going to get laid that night, I wouldn't bump till afterwords (which really sucked) Anyways, I've been 98% clean since December, and I test my equipment as much as poossible, and I am happy to say, I am in great working condition.
