Gandolfinis' split gets uglier

JAMES Gandolfini and his co-stars in "The Sopranos" hunkered down yesterday as accusations were made public that they had snorted cocaine together.

The National Enquirer cites court papers filed in the bitter divorce of Gandolfini and his wife, Marcy, in which she lists "more than two dozen names of those she believes James did drugs with, including a number of 'Sopranos' buddies."

In copies reaching newsstands today, the Enquirer reports: "If the divorce case goes to trial, Marcy could drag a whole set-load of 'Sopranos' cast members onto the witness stand, engulfing the show in a drug scandal as she tries to prove her claims that her husband did drugs with his fellow actors."

Marcy's lawyer, Norman Sheresky, told PAGE SIX her biggest problem now is the tabloid itself. "She's devastated by the story. These people [the Gandolfinis] are getting along. They have a kid [Michael, 3]. The stories are bringing them together."

Sheresky didn't dispute the Enquirer's account of what is contained in the court papers. Among Marcy's claims, James:

* Would disappear every 10 to 14 days and go on a drug-and-drinking binge during which he would have kinky sex with other women.

* Went into rehab at the New Directions clinic upstate in April 2000, but checked out before completing the 28-day program.

* Has taken such antidepressants as Wellbutrin and Prozac.

* Was arrested Sept. 26, 1997, in Beverly Hills on charges of drunk driving, for which he was fined $2,358 and served three years of probation.

The Enquirer's sources also studied the legal papers filed by Gandolfini. Among his charges, Marcy:

* Is emotionally unstable, with a volatile temper which makes her unsafe to live with.

* Threatened several times to commit suicide when Gandolfini informed her last October that he no longer wanted to sleep at their Greenwich Village apartment.

* Is controlled and manipulated by a psychiatrist she's been seeing regularly since 1997.

* Is a risk to their son, having told a friend one month after his birth she was so angry at James she feared she might hurt her baby.

In a response to her husband's claims, Marcy denied in court papers ever threatening to kill herself or her child, or that she was ever under the control of a psychiatrist.

HBO declined to comment. Gandolfini's lawyer, Robert S. Cohen, couldn't be reached. His publicist, Stan Rosenfield, wouldn't go beyond what he told the Enquirer, which was that he had no knowledge of the star using cocaine "or being in any of these situations that you have suggested."
