goldenman
Ministry of Sound's flagship mag goes down the tubes. Oct 25, 2002 Ministry Magazine axed Unsubstantiated rumours about the demise of Ministry magazine have been circulating for several months, but the organisation today confirmed that the December issue will be the last. The magazine and indeed the whole brand have been suffering for some time as investments in the radio station and record labels failed to pay off. 3I, the venture capital firm that put around £24 million into the company last year was said to have been pushing for cost cuts and the closure of the independently published title must surely represent a significant one. The magazine - that previously boasted the highest circulation figures in the dance music / clubbing sector - has had a disastrous year with a 22% drop in readership, leaving it with a monthly circulation of around 65,000, though sources at the mag denied that the decision had been taken on a purely financial basis, stating that it was still making around half a million pounds a year.Instead, Ministry of Sound’s creative director Mark Rodol said it was more a case that the magazine no longer ‘accurately reflected the brand’ and that a new mag covering wider “issues†relevant to ‘global youth culture’ is to be launched next summer.
