Defacing the American flag

WTF is the point of this??.....I dont see how burning the flag or writing how it kills goes to show that you question the gov't.....I always thought that it was a symbol of what this country is made of....It represents who you are....So everytime a person burns it or defaces it in some way, it just shows the lack of respect that person has towards their fellow Americans....Just my 2 cents....

Every time that certain tree-hugger posts and has the American Flag with garbage written on it, I just want to take his guitar away from him and beat him with it. I have no real problem with listening to his Socialist propaganda. And, I respect his right to voice opposition. In fact, I encourage him because its all part of the checks and balances that makes our system of government great and unique. But, to deface a flag, a flag that protects him, a flag that is flying in a time of war, a flag that people have given their lives for and are dying for today…. This is offensive.

screw the flag, its just a peice of cloth with a design on it. i think its hippocritical to say you care about americans then make a big deal about flag burning when theres so much more important stuff happening. what about the american citizens being held hostage by the u.s. government without being able to talk to anyone, not even lawyers. dont you think thats wrong? the supreme court ruled that flagburning is freedom of speech, i mean why burn a cross in front of some ones house, why burn anything for that matter? i personally think voting and getting out information is more useful, but to some people flag burning is better because it catches more attention. in politics as well as everything else, the cheapest thing attracts the most people. just like theres cheez music thats mainstream, theres cheez politics, and cheez politics appeals to people by being flashy, burning flags, being tied to trees, whatever...

screw the flag?? bro i dont know how u were raised, u r puerto rican right? but i was taught to respect ALL FLAGS it is a symbol of a country...if u view it just as a "piece of cloth" u have missed the total meaning behind any flag...as far as american citizens held hostage by US, not being able to talk to their lawyers - - who exactly are u referring to? u think burning a flag is good cuz it attracts attention to an issue? well if the issue was worth ANYTHING, it wouldnt need someone burning a flag, dont u think? if it is a good issue, why would u need a "flashy" gimmic to attract attention? i guess the issue isnt THAT IMPORTANT...

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but didnt you have the Puerto Rican flag as your avatar at one point?....If its only a piece of cloth then what would be the point of you putting it up there??

Nice reply.

It's like saying the Dollar bill is a piece of paper... There is more to it than just that. The flag is a representation of the American people. Burning a flag isn't just burning America's policies; it's searing into the thread that made us a great nation.

nycmuzik-i had it up just cuz i felt like it, why do i have what i have now as and avatar? just cuz i feel like it. why does anyone have anything as an avatar. i didnt know that avatars represent motives. it doesnt mean ill get pissed if someone burns the puerto rican flag. in fact i saw that sienfeld episode where kramer burnt the p.r. flag, i thought that was pretty funny. flags are just cloth, people are more important than flags. if you cant understand that humanity is more important than intangible ideas (politics, religion, money...) then i cant explain it to you.

mr.matas, maybe you were born in cuba so you dont get where im coming from. i was raised in nyc where cops hate "spics and niggers." ive seen federal employees break the law. and the dollar bill is just a piece of paper. its not backed by gold like it once was, it means nothing. soon money will all be numbers in bank accounts and specie will not be used anymore. i know this sounds farfetched but im sure metrocards sounded far fetched 50 years ago too. the flag really is not the point. im sure the founders of america would think it ridiculous to criticize flag burning and they created this nation. i find it interesting that those who swear to be vehemently patriotic somehow do not know the history of the united states and what the united states is about. america is about freedom, and that freedom comes from the people. government gets power only with the consent from the people and if a government is abusing its citizens it should be destroyed. the flag was just a symbol representing the 13 colonies that joined together in a REVOLUTION. yet "patriotic americans" seem to hate the idea of revolution, or even that someone could criticize the government. the blood shed on american soil was shed for freedom against tyranny of the english monarchy, not for some bullshit flag. those who preach the wisdom of blindly following government are the greatest enemies of this nation. they curse others who stand up and fight to make this nation better, but thats always the way it is. yet still oppression will never overcome the truth and there will always be those who admit what they see is wrong and fight for what is right. people said blacks shouldnt be freed or learn to read. women shouldnt vote. irish jews and italians and chinese cant get jobs. but people fought for their rights and gave us the freedoms you criticize me for excercizing. i will never bow my head down in shame of my beliefs, nor will i bend to any flag or idol that represents anything. ill pledge to the flag and do my best to protect this countries constitution, something you all should do.

when the president is sworn in he swears to uphold and protect the constitution. yet we are told it needs to be revised for our "protection" from terrorist. i think you people need to grow up and read a newspaper before you start making personal judgements about people beliefs.

OK Tony, the flag is just cloth, The Star Spangled Banner is just a song, & money is just paper. If all that is true then the Constitution is just a bunch of cool ideas. ARE YOU ARE NUTZ!

First off, our founding fathers not only spent great time and effort in designing our flag, they also created a great ceremony in raising it, taking it down and folding it. It is the symbol of everything that makes this country great. Like you, I also grew up in NYC. And, to be honest, yes there were times I witnessed individuals (cops, federal workers, ect...) break the law and practice hate. However, our system helps protect against that (try that in Mexico). And, more often than not, I witnessed the complete opposite, an Irish cop helping a hispanic women, ect... To me, the glass is half full! Yes, we can do better and we do improve from generation to generation. You point this out in your post (civil rights, equal rights for women...) But, you forget that the Flag symbolizes all of this. We're not a bunch of pagans praying to a rock that's carved by a man for sunshine, I love our flag for because it symbolizes greatness. Not just how great our society is, but how much better it can be!

With this said, I am 4 the expansion of our governments ability to chase down people and groups who use our freedoms to hide amongst us. Yes, sometimes civil rights laws have to be bent for the greater good. That's the truth. And, YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH! Its a messed up world! People are coming over here and attending our flight schools to kill us. If we need to read the e-mails of all Arab men... GOOD! If they are just talking about the new place for coffee or if Trance is dead, fine. Then they will be fine. But, lets look at that Professor from Tampa who has been funneling funds to the PLO, HAMAS and to Bin Ladin... we have let this guy hide behind our flag and laws 2 long. I don't care if he gets expelled from this country... He broke our laws and then hid behind them for protection.

Symbols have meaning and importance. Otherwise, they would not stand for anything. That's fine that you want all voices to be heard, but do it while showing respect for the very symbol that guarantees your voice can be heard.

How can you say that its just a piece of cloth??....Its like me saying that your ideas are just that and nothing more....You know thats bullshit.....If there is one constant in this country, its that flag....It flies high wherever you go and it represents the ideals that this country is made of....Freedom, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness....

And your cops hating "spic and niggers" comment is ridiculous....I feel sorry for you if you think that all cops are like that just because of a few bad apples.....If I thought the same way you did then I'd think every Arab was a terrorist....I'm glad I dont....

Now we come to this so called "revolution" that all the ultra liberals like to talk about so much.....What exactly do you want to revolt against....I dont see any of your rights being revoked....You're all given the same opportunities to make a better life for yourselves....But instead you choose to blame anything that doesnt appease you on a gov't and country that gives more of a chance to live free that any other on the face of this planet.....And when you do revolt, what exactly do you plan on doing???....I'm very curious because I havent heard even one idea, good or bad, come out of the mouth of a liberal......Its this fantasy gov't you all dream of that will drive you insane for the rest of your lives.....Some say they dont want to pay taxes because they dont think the gov't should take money they earn.....If thats the case then who will protect you and keep up your standard of living??....I suppose that people taking the law into their own hands is the way to go........Whatever it may be, its all just a fantasy....Nothing more than an excuse for people to place the blame on the gov't instead of themselves.....

i was born here in America...i am American by birth and Cuban by roots....but i love both America's flag and Cuba's flag (minus that "dict"tator:D )...but why blame "some bad apples" for burning the flag? they are bad people in every position in federal jobs and police depts....hell i live in Miami, they are doing investigations showing that Miami cops have been involved in more shoot outs than most other police depts...but i dont "blame the country" for them...i blame human resources for hiring them:tongue: ...to me, burning any flag is the "highest disrespect" u can show towards a country...thats just my opinion, not fact...OPINION...u can burn it if u want, like i said its UR RIGHT...but that doesnt make it RIGHT...btw, alot of other nations are not backed by gold anymore..i dont know if someone could research that...i am sure u will find many other nations currency isnt backed by gold anymore....:D
