Grant Dell Biography

Championing his unique blend of deep, intelligent, funky house, Grant Dell is a DJ who deserves to be heard. As an experienced artist, Grant's taste in music steers him away from the obvious track's -- he has the ability to pick up the gem's that other DJ's would miss and create productions that take us to the next level of house. Spanning a hectic 10 years, Grant's DJing career has taken him across the globe as far as Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and Kuala Lumpar, as well as closer to home in France, Italy, United States and Croatia.

In 2001, Grant burst into the production world, building his own studio and enjoying success as part of the production duo "Tribalation" with three Eps on Loaded. EP 1 exploded in the USA and was licensed to Strictly Rhythm. The Tribulation sound, which emcompasses long heavy basslines, mesmerizing vocals and heavy hypnotic percussive workouts, has been coined by top DJs across the board as "the sound of 2002". Since then Grant's career has motored into high gear, with Ep 3 just released on Loaded, and forthcoming Tribalation releases on Big Chief and Tango. Grant also produces with Bob DeRosa as Uhuru Beats and has forthcoming solo productions on labels such as Big Chief, Plastic City, Swag, Visitor, and Detour.

The son of a jazz musician has become the son of a gun of British tech-house. Grant's passion for music was really set on fire when the punk and new wave scene rocked the UK in the 70s. In the early eighties, as the punk era was drawing to a close, the laid back beats of reggae and dub lured him into the world of dance musicGrant started Djing professionally back in 1990 at a house and garage night in Reading called Scruples. From his stomping ground in South London, Grant developed his style of deep house mixed with tech-house and tribal sounds. He worked his magic throughout London's network of underground parties such as Whoop Whoop, Liberation and his own parties, Wildlife, which soon gained a huge dedicated following of underground dance music lovers, and earned him respect from his peers. This led to a guest spots at Heart & Soul & Wiggle, which are the only true underground events that continue today, spinning along side jock's such as Evil Eddie Richards and Terry Francis. Grant soon got the taste for radio with his own show on ENERGY 87.9 FM ( the longest running pirate radio show to date) on Thursday evening's, sponsored by Swag Records. He has also played on Radio 1, Gaia Live, Groovetech and Kiss FM Melbourne. In 1996 an invitation to take up residency at one of Sydney, Australia's top clubs, Delicious, set Grant on a global tech-house tour, and he was one of the first DJs to introduce the sound of underground London to New Zealand and Australia. During his two-year stay in Sydney, Grant pioneered the infusion of London's unique tech-house sound down under with the introduction of some of the UK's top names including Mr. C, Terry Francis and Colin Dale.

2001 brought Grant back to London with regular spots at some of London's best underground events from Whoop Whoop, Kerfuffle and Lunar to the Save The Rhino events in the UK and overseas. Keeping on the pulse of underground dance music, Grant can also be found at South London's infamous specialist dance music shop, SWAG.
