nettwerkstreet Posted January 14 Report Share Posted January 14 KINKY GETS GRAMMY NOD; MAKES YEAR END BESTSLOS ANGELES, Jan. 9, 2003 – Kinky’s debut album, “Kinky†(Nettwerk America/Sonic 360), has been nominated for a Grammy in the category of “Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album.â€The band’s eponymous debut saw a March 2002 release that quickly turned the ears of U.S. music critics. Following the band’s effervescent SXSW appearance, critics from Rolling Stone, Spin, New York Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, and the Chicago Tribune described Kinky’s music as “f*****shly danceable,†“groovy electro-pop†and even going so far as to proclaim their unique blend as the “future of music.†At year end, “Kinky†was in the company of Bruce Springsteen, Queens of the Stone Age and Clinic among the most influential critic’s year end best of lists. The New York Times’ Neil Strauss listed the album in his best of and remarked that Kinky’s music “makes for a stunning live show and a simultaneously cerebral and visceral album...â€Kinky spent the remainder of 2002 touring the U.S., and the world, on tours ranging from The Unlimited Sunshine Tour (with Cake and The Flaming Lips) to stints in Europe with Shakira as well as numerous sold out headlining shows the globe over. The band received a Latin Grammy nomination for “Best Rock Album by a Duo or Group.†Kinky will take a break from the recording of their forthcoming record to appear at The Mayan Theatre in Los Angeles on Jan. 16.
