(if it's fixed, keep this in mind in the future)

almost every company has a firewall set up to filter/block incoming/outgoing packets of information. AIM is one of those. sometimes the system admins will change the ports that this traffic flows on. so...

go to Edit Options --> Edit Preferences --> Sign On/Off

click on the Connection button

choose Auto-Configure

this will either fail, in which case AIM's servers are possibly down or your entire network is hosed, or it will find any ports that are open for "listening"
