njdionysus
The most beautiful sounds of opening day were directed at Glavine when he got boo'd off the mound. New pitcher, same results. Mets lose! Yankees win even without Jeter. And so the season will go, Mets will flounder with a poor defense while the Yankees march into the postseason!NEW YORK -- Tom Glavine's first pitch, a strike, settled into Mike Piazza's mitt at 1:13 p.m. Monday and the sellout crowd at Shea Stadium erupted. Glavine's 90th pitch, a ball, fell harmlessly into Piazza's glove an hour and a half later and the crowd erupted again, this time voicing its displeasure with boos. The veteran southpaw walked off the mound following that 90th pitch, with his debut as a Met over after 3 2/3 innings. What was supposed to be a triumphant beginning in New York for Glavine quickly turned into a bad dream as the Cubs roughed him up for five runs on eight hits en route to a 15-2 Opening Day loss for the Mets in Queens. Chicago scored four runs in the first inning as Glavine struggled with his command. The Mets entered the game with the best Opening Day winning percentage (.634) of any team in Major Leagues, but the Cubs weren't concerned with history. They were only concerned with Glavine, taking advantage of his uncharacteristic wildness. The 37-year-old hurler threw 34 pitches in that first inning, walking two and allowing four hits before getting Damian Miller to hit into an inning-ending double play. unclebuc
Did the Mets sign Glavine for 3 years or 3 innings????
poohjn1
After watching the last month of last season at that start on Monday, I'd bet they wish it was 3 innings.
