Does anyone know how to get rid of these messed up "messenger service" pop-up spams I keep getting.

Conveniently, they are mostly ads on how to get rid of those damn pop ups that it is written on. It's driving me crazy. I've gone to add/remove programs but do not know which program it is. Please computer masters, I need some help.

i found the sites. read below, also the guys at aol, blocked it, but the spammers said it would only take weeks to beat them again.... but if you disable it, you have no worries, just don't do it at work..

* the fix i used, was to disable it, i had to download nothing, and buy or install anything.. just click disabled, but i don't remember where you find it at.. And so for those who read this, msn messenger is completly different that what he is getting on his computer....

The easiest way to stop this type of spam is to simply disable the Windows Messenger service. In Windows NT, 2000 or XP you can access the services through the Control Panel. From there you can right-click on the Messenger service and access the Properties. Click “Stop†to stop the service and then change Startup Type to “Disabledâ€. For an even easier way to do this you can download Stop Messenger Spam 1.0. Stop Messenger Spam is a small, freely available program which will disable your Messenger service for you. It is available to download from http://www.stopmessengerspam.com. Because there are legitimate programs that may be using the Windows Messenger Service on your network you may notice problems after you disable the service. If you find that you need to have the service enabled to make other applications function, you can also use a personal firewall program such as Zone Alarm (http://www.zonelabs.com) to help block incoming connections to your computer.

start button -->

settings -->

control panel -->

administrative tools -->

services -->

in that window you will see a list of services:

alerter is set to "automatic"... right click change to "manual"

messenger is set to "automatic"... right click change to "manual"

after you change those, you will be sorted forever! don't download those other programs. they will also install spiware on your PC. for added protection install and run a program called 'ad-aware'. it can be found on download.com for free. run it a couple times a day for best results! :)

not to negative at all... just not a lot of features, but if you have those options turned to manual, you won't have to worry about those types of pop ups. you will still get the ones that come up on websites like this one w/ the adds, just not the windows ones that pop up even when you are not on your PC.

Because the have the worst network known.

If you have DSL and you done have in type of firewall or router you can be in some danger of attack.

The messages that pop-up are really no harm, but they annoy.

I scan the Bellsouth network most the time and find alot of people with no firewalls or protection all the time. People need to get protection, summer is almost here and the virus are growin. Last summer we had massive virus break outs.

So check it, I have an opportunity to bring down Evil Eddie Richards for a Sunday night. I would want to do this at my warehouse underground style with the goal of just breaking even. Does anyone want to do this event with me. We can get him on the mad, bro hook up for travel, fee, hotel and dinner for $500(his rate is way higher but he really wants to play a killer party down here in Miami). His music is sick, just not on the normal Aquabooty tip. If you want this let me know.

How about a club planet, break even warehouse party?
