skippyd Posted May 29 Report Share Posted May 29 Speaking of racing.....I went and drove a stock car (NASCAR) at Pocono Raceway.8 laps and my top speed on the front straight away was 178 mphI took the morning three hour class on how to drive stock cars on the track and then got to drive one.AWESOME.....better than any rollercoaster ride out there. rdntheshortbus Posted May 29 Author Report Share Posted May 29 Those are the ones bro...The shifter Karts are the ones that hit 100mph...We left those sit... not part of the rental deal for the day...One mistake and go off the track and you are fucked...The chains and sprockets are only about 1 inch off the ground, so one mistake can cost ya about $250...lol..We stuck to the rotax karts on the demo... they will still hit about 70mph... plenty fast for a newbie... Are you fucking serious bro? Karting rocks!!! I know this might be hard to beleive now, but I use to race karts back in '84-89 at Oakland Valley Raceway on both the road coarse and dirt oval. I was quite a bit smaller then, but I was track champion for a few years in a couple of classes. Karting is a lot of fun! Nothing like roaring down that 1200 ft. straightaway at over 75mph into the 180 turn back uphill. Haha. I know that race track like the back of my hand, I raced there for years. There and all over the country. They race karts on Daytona International Speedway in December... 100mph down those long straightaways sitting about 2 inches off the ground, sick! They also race 250cc Rotax engines called SuperKarts at Daytona, 5-spd at over 140 mph! Funny Mike Doty is running a class now, he sucked when we raced together on the 1/5 mile dirt oval but I heard he grew into it. I got a photo of myself at OVR somewhere around here. rdntheshortbus Posted May 29 Author Report Share Posted May 29 I will let you know next time we go.. the more the merrier...Dotey was turning laps with us all day...He really set the place up good, all of us came home with big grins...Since you know the track Joe...Bus won the award for worst crash...I decided to try to outbreak the leader in our last heat, at the turn at the end of the straightaway...hahaha...Pushed the retainer wall back about 8ft, and disappeared into a cloud of dust...Bus came out with a ear to ear grin and a flat tire...Love that shit!!
