cintron
Finally a lightweight Golf.well maybe a lightweight golf. they're so heavy and packed full of luxury and electronic goodies that theyr'e about as manuverable as a brick, and the engine is about as modifiable as one. joeg
don't they have the 1.8t???or are those the VR6?
cintron
VW actually hired Bosch engineers to keep changing the ECU code every so often, so you're not really going to see a lot of aftermarket ECU control units that can tune a 1.8T's motor, like the TurboXS UTEC for the WRX, or the Apexi Power FC.It's a shame. I always knew VW put "lawyer friendly profit margin" above "delivering performance to the public."That's why I think VW performance buffs are either the most misguided or hardcore enthusiasts on the planet. it's hard to tune a car that has had so much money dumped on it during the development process to prevent you from doing exactly that. And afterwards you're still left with a car that makes a dandy breakfast for any other turbo car out there, save maybe a saab or a volvo. (great for running 1 program on the street and one on the track specifically for 100octane (or whatever))forge motorsports and APR make such software...http://www.goapr.com/Audi/products/directport.htmlhttp://www.goapr.com/Audi/products/ecuexplorer.htmlcheckout that ecuexplorer link... thats some great stuff for tuning... much better than a lot of the shitty palm dataloggers running around...and then all the other companies make "chips" themselves... which aren't as flexible... but provide pretty significant power gains in themselves...the 1.8t engine is INCREDIBLY modable... aswell as very strong (forged steel crank). there are plenty of guys running bigger turbos and 20+ psi daily without any reliability issues...i must admit... i never took this engine seriously before i looked into it extensively... i think its one of the most under-rated engines around...coming from a dsm where i was saving up to buy "dsm link" which is a direct ECU tuning program, engine management was one of my key points of interest in buying a new car... to which i was pleasantly surprised with VW's aftermarket.btw... note that this flashable technology has only been out for about a month, so if you weren't aware, i wouldn't blame you... i never followed VW stuff before i got one, either.... cintron
you mean, flashable technology has been out since the advent of EPROM chips... well, i'll be damned. Glad to see someone can finally do something with the motor. It's a shame everything wrapped around it also sucks.
