What happened to Spirit.

Recommended Posts

Really wanted to give this place another chance so headed over and to my surprise it was CLOSED! I thought it was open on Saturday's?? Whats going on here??

Anyone know??

Then headed to Crobar which was very full but a very weird crowd for sure.

Looked like a lot of B&T.

I think the music on Saturday's will change once VC starts his Saturday residency.

just my 0.02 cents

spirit was closed last nite for a private event that was taking place earlier in the nite . . . it will be open on NYE, for dirty vegas-low end specialists-astro&glyde . . . and it will be open saturdays once nye is over and relatively soon will be open on fridays as well - no details on that yet tho.

like i said in other posts, spirit is also a venue used for various types of things, including many private events. a lot goes on there during the week that is not advertised except to interested parties and those signed up for the mailing list. it is not strictly meant to be a nightclub, and thereby there is less of an emphasis on it.

drop me a PM with your contact info, and i will assure you are taken care of the next time you want to check the venue out on a saturday. :)

the new friday party that will be starting @ spirit will be music focused.

nye is music focused.

next :)

I think avalon is a descent size... very manageable.. spirit- restaurant and private parties.. also with some good solid nights.. manageable.

I think crobar is just friggin huge... too huge... like tooo huge.

am I getting my point across.

the whole situation reminds me of when I lived in South Beach.

Here came Level.. this massive place. Did awesome for like 6-8 months... then slowed.. then crobar opened..which was soo much smaller. and had a good weekend crowd.. and a descent Monday night. (back door bambi)..

so crobar maintained.. and level sank (wasn't soo level anymore :) ).. this is strictly due to size.

the irony.. is that now crobar, after seeing all that in Miami.. did the same thing here.. are they the next level, the next world...

it's soo big.

I think it's a very nice club.. very cool.. but it's just tremendous.

now back to Spirit..

I really like the place....

I think it will do well... just needs some tinkering.

I love the decor.. and I think it offers you whatever you may be looking for wrapped in a nice package.

I think NYE is going to be a good time there... the place has all the right elements.

and I think once they bring in a solid"dj" night and the perception changes a bit... it will kick ass, no doubt.

Joe I hear what your saying but you can't base the success of a new club on the likely turnout of the New Year's Eve party.

Thats just one night and SHOULD be packed if the programming of talent and price is right.

The fact is that Spirit is a great concept (esp in Europe). But since it's opening which also was not packed, I think Spirit's concept is lost on New Yorkers.

I know that Spirit is trying to go for an older more sophisticated and money crowd, but then they book Progressive DJ's which do appeal to that crowd.

The other problem as I see it, is that Spirit is in a location that does not have walking traffic. The 30 years olds and higher are not going to go there every week so therefore Spirit needs to rely on word of mouth, good promotion or just good old walking traffic.

For all the negativity that this board gives towards Crobar, It's been full since it opened. It may not be to everyone's taste but they get several thousand people each night.

Now as you say, that may not last but one thing that Crobar has had since the opening and thats a BUZZ!

Spirit has not had that buzz and desperately needs it. For it to survive in what is historically 2 very slow months, it needs promotional direction, a much better program of DJ's and a marketing strategy.

Whoever is the PR company for Spirit, needs to be got rid of FAST.

I think it needs a lot more than a "tinker"
