bitchinbreaks
Legion of Boom – The Crystal Method – Album Release Sponsored by BPM – 1/13/03 Who ever said that the best breaks producers are in the UK? Right here in Los Angeles CA, we were lucky enough to have The Crystal Method drop some bad ass breaks on us last night!!! Could their music stand up to the likes of the Plump DJs and General Midi?? OH YES!! Let me just say that their set was slamming all the way through!!! People began trickling in to this guest list only event at Garden of Eden off of at about 9pm. The first dj to play was pretty good, he was playing some slow breaks that sounded like Krafty Kuts mmmmmmmmm……..which was really cool, and who doesn’t love him? I sure as hell do! He was also playing some house at the same tempo, which was boring to me. The music was cool, but way to slow to dance to.So, after about a few beers and 500 cigarettes later Jason Bently came on the decks. I have never heard Jason play before, and I guess he is pretty popular here, and he has written a cool track or two. He played some house, which again was boring to me, but, he did impress me with one or two breaks tunes. He played the milkshake song which is one of the coolest hip-hop tracks out right now, that bass is just nasty!!!!!!!!!!! The remix he played was great, I’m not sure who did it, but I knew it would happen sooner or later. After some boring house, I think it was Scott Kirkland that got on the mic and gave props to The Chemical Brothers, and dropped one of their tunes. Ken Jordan was also on the decks. The music they played was pretty slamming all the way through, but the tracks that really stood out and really made me dance were the Finger Lickin’ tracks. Some oldie but goodie bombs from Soul of Man and the Plumps of course!! I wish I had the track listing from last night, there was some great music, I think I heard one from General Midi that made me want to you know what………but, I wasn’t sure what track it was or if it even was them. I just want to say thanks to BPM for throwing this event!! Finally a US breaks duo who can stand up to the likes of the Plump DJ’s and keep the floor rockin’ with breaks all the way through, and don’t disappoint us breaks supporters!! There were a lot of breaks supporters their as well like myself of course, Simply Jeff and Bassplugger. It was a great night and I am proud to be a breaks bitch!! I can’t imagine a life without music!! It would be a horrible horrible world without it, especially breaks!! Phew! deepfunk
hahaI'm a house DJ myself but if I'm going for breaks it's got to be Oscure. He's a good friend too. We DJ'd together most recently on Halloween. I spin with him all the time.If it's not Oscure then it's got to be Simply Jeff!
