Howard Dean dies in car wreck

Montpelier, VT (Headlined News) – Former democratic presidential hopeful Howard Dean has died after a car crash in the capital of Vermont.

He was taken to Montpelier Medical Center on Tuesday morning where doctors tried for three hours to save his life but he died at 9:34 AM Eastern.

In a statement Howard Dean’s campaign manager Roy Neel said his staff was “deeply shocked and saddened.â€

Police say Dean, 56, and 11 other campaign aides were on their to way to a fund raiser when the driver lost control of his 2001 Lincoln Town Car shortly before noon near Jenkins Road.

Investigators believe Dean’s car had just come out of a curve heading south when it swerved to the other side of the road, hit a lemonade stand and flipped over. Police Lt. Tyrese Richmond said the eleven other passengers were in critical condition at area hospitals and are expected to survive.

Dean’s campaign manager said that it was, “incomprehensible why he packed twelve people into a Lincoln Town Car and didn’t take two cars,†and then continued, “But that’s just the way Dean was – a unifier, not a divider!â€

Saturday afternoon, more than a 700 supporters gathered at Dean’s campaign headquarters in Vermont.

Howard Dean was born November 17, 1948 in the Appellation mountains of Vermont. He received his Medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1978 and till 1982 he was a physician in private practice specializing in internal medicine.

Elected lieutenant governor of Vermont in 1986, Dean ascended to governorship in 1991 until 2002 when he announced his bid for Democratic presidential candidate of the United States.

Dean is survived by his wife, Judy Steinberg Dean, and two children, Anne, 19, and Paul, 17.
