The History

Everything began in 1989 when like- minded people got together in Berlin to demonstrate for love, tolerance and peace – although without great speeches, but only with music and dance. The Love Parade was born. „ Music surmounts all borders of languages and is therefore universally understandable. With music you can reach the hearts of people.“ stated the founders of the Love Parade in those days. Nowadays this event has become an attraction for millions of people and can be considered an important element of the techno culture.

A techno parade is a marvelous procession of colorfully adorned vehicles along a route. These love vehicles are the actual core of a parade. Their speakers transmit various tunes and rhythms and offer a platform for DJ’s as well as they are stages for dance shows and they are accompanied by dancing people, the ravers.

For every raver the parade is considered a special event. For this reason, fancy dresses and extraordinary outfits are a vital part of each parade. Whether secretary or broker, they all turn into hot dancers under the lively rhythms of the love vehicles.

For Love, Peace, & Tolerance

Music surmounts all borders of nationalities and, due to this, this philosophy hasn’t only spread throughout Europe, but world-wide. In the meantime, parades have taken place in Switzerland, Spain, Italy, France, Austria and even in Israel, South Africa and China.

The Streetparade in Zurich is the biggest parade of its kind nowadays. In August 2001, on the 10th anniversary of this event, over a million ravers were dancing along the lake of Zurich. A demonstration for love, peace and tolerance going off peacefully and without a hitch, it was an extremely impressive experience.

After the outstanding success of the Loveparade in Berlin and of the Streetparade in Zurich, we are to ask ourselves why an event for love, tolerance and peace shouldn’t take place in Brazil?

The world nowadays is growing steadily together, electronic tones have long since globally mixed and are established all over the world.

The Vision

The idea of a techno parade in Rio de Janeiro, in Copacabana Beach, was startet by the Swiss DJ AJ Crypt a.k.a. Adrian Halter during a stay in Rio in the year 2000 when he was booked by several clubs. At the time he created important connections in the local techno scene. The vision to bring the techno parade back to its roots, into the home city of carnivals and street procession was born.

A parade in Rio de Janeiro!

Music plays an important role in the 10 million metropolis. Carnivals and Samba made Rio world-famous. Dancing outdoors, streetparades with adorned procession vehicles and partying have a great tradition here. Thus, it’s not surprising that the roots of the Love- and Streetparade lead back to the carnival. The RioParade brings this philosophy back to its roots. With new musical influences, the RioParade will become an interesting mix between South American party culture and electronic tones from all over the world. The multicultural city of Rio de Janeiro is ideal for this event of international techno culture.

We have noticed that techno music has gained popularity in Rio in the last few years. Clubs have opened in all kinds of areas, from posh dance temples to casual suburban parties. Electronic tones fascinate not only the rich but also the poor and connect all different social classes of the city. Even the media noticed this trend and has been dedicating more programs to the booming techno culture.

Back To The Roots

The fundamental idea was to bring back the electronic parade to the ideologically place of birth of all the parades. As Dr. Motte in 1989 organized his first Loveparade, he was inspired by the carnival in Rio de Janeiro. After 14 years, Adrian Halter a.k.a. A.J. Crypt brought back Dr. Motte's idea back to its roots.

Through the heart of Rio de Janeiro

The Parade starts at the Praça da República on the Avenida Presidente Vargas. From there the lovemobiles will move in direction of the Igreja da Candelaria and then turns into the Avenida Rio Branco, which was the original route of the world-famous carnival. At the end of Avenida Rio Branco, on the Cinelândia Square will be the final party. The main stage is going to be located in front of the Câmera Municipal do Rio de Janeiro and offers a beautiful scenery for the ending of the RioParade.

Along the whole route there will be several dancing stages, screens and attractions. The RioParade will be free of charge.
