As much as his legacy has been tainted by the poorplay of the Rangers and himself since returning for a 2nd tour of duty.

Glad to see him score a goal in which will be hopefully his last home game as a Ranger

Big ups for one of the top 5 players in NHL hiostory and the man that finally helped break that god awful "1940" chant

Congratulations to one of the greatest players and leaders ever to play in the NHL. Big UP.

that quote is laughable

people forget the talent edmonton had

people forget it was leetch and richter who carried the rangers to a cup

people forgot mark hasn't made the playoofs in what 6-7 years (when he wasn't surrounded by lots of talent)

among the top scorers cause he played forever

plus never got called for being one the dirtiest players in the league (3 stick related suspensions)

hardly a laughable quote when most hockey "experts" agree prob the best leader of a hockey club.

Yeah most teams that win a cup are usually laden with talent.

Longevity is another reason why he is great although should have hung em up 2 yrs ago

Yeh gritty/dirty whatever ..has nothing to do with his greatness

He is in the top 5-7 players of alltime ...

You're an idiot if you really believe that.

"greatest leader in sports"

ok jerkoffs

this is the quote i'm talking about. heard numerous times by mess's personel dick rider john davidson

his leadership is overblown. for christ's sake he wasn't able to LEAD a team into the playoffs for the last 7 years. the last four with talented rosters

funny how the rangers leader skipped to vancouver when the rangers offered a little less $$

he's not even the greatest leader in hockey nevermind all sports

i'll take gretzy , lemiuex, yzerman over him and a bunch of others who aren't modern day

I don't think Messier is the best captain ever, but I do think the guy ranks pretty high...

I do agree 100% here though... I"ll take any of these three ahead of Mark....

LETS GO REDWINGS :)

OK Jagofff

first off Cmakk quote was "one of the greatest players and leaders ever to play in the nhl" if you dont agree with that statment your just a hater or no jack about hockey.

Ask any one outside of JDavidson , who we all know is a Ranger homer anyway the greatness of this guys career .

No player in NHL history was gonna take this Ranger team over the past 5yrs to the playoffs.

And Mess felt slighted by not getting a bigger contract so he left for Vancouver , that makes him a bad player or dimninishes his value to a team???

Oh yeah gretzky ...he one a ton of cups after leaving Messier

gretz went to the final with la (vs. montreal)

u wanna compare rosters with that team to a ranger team that won in 94 or the team the year after mess left

wowww mess made the guarantee . what was he gonna say "i think the team will lose in game 6"

then with home ice they needed overtime and an abymal play by the overratted russian fetisov .... not using the boards to get it out of his zone. the result = puck was kept in and mattaeu scores the game winner

i guess you don't remember richter standing on his head for the first 30-40 minutes of the game. without richter's magic the score would have been 5-1 at the end of 2 leaving no chance for the empty netter hat trick

realityyy , you dont have to remind me of the run the rangers had in 94 , I am a ranger fan i do recall all of it

Yeh, guys dont go out and GUARANTEE wins when they know its gonna wind up front page of every paper , of course they dont go out and say their gonna lose but they rarely Guarantee victory , and then go out and perform the way he did.

Whatever bro, you wanna hate on MEss go ahead , aint gonna change the mind of peeps who know what the guy brought to the table and accomplished in his career .

He is a top 5-7 guy all time in the NHL ...period

WOW grounbreaking news

really ,a team with the highest payroll in the NHL for the past 6 yrs and should make it to the playoffs??.. you right MArk Messier does not belong in the hall of fame

I STATED BEFORE MESS SHOULD HAVE HUNG EM UP FEW YRS AGO

IT DOES NOT DIMINISH WHAT HE DID OR WHAT OTHERS THINK OF HIM FROM THE PREVIOUS 17 YRS OF PLAYING
