bigpoppanils
back in '94 i'm sure no one would have guessed that Chrysler would be a subsidiary of Mercedes, or that Plymouth and Oldsmobile would be dead. it is also likely that few people thought that Hyundais would be as well built as Toyotas, or that Nissan would be controlled by Renault.where do you think the auto industry will be in 10 years?personally, I think that Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Fiat, Mercury, and MG Rover are all fucked. Saab and Saturn are fucked too.Isuzu is killing the Axiom, Rodeo, and Rodeo Sport....leaving it with one truck (a trailblazer clone) for sale for at least 3 years. Goodbye.Mitsubishi is entering its second multi-billion dollar bailout since Y2K. Mitsubishi just redid its whole product line, and sales keep dropping. Its product pipeline is horrendous....only a new Eclipse and Colt (which wont be sold here) have been confirmed. I'm not even sure if Mitsubishi will be acquired....but I can see Hyundai being a buyer to gain access to the Colt.Fiat has been posting huge losses and has been losing market share for years. Its product line is also stale. I can see it selling of maserati and Alfa to survive, but i dont see a future for the main brand. MG Rover has been very weak financially since being split off from BMW. They have been very creative in their R&D (they recently created a supermini by rebadging an indian car....total price $30 million), but their cars are very very old. I see it being bought up again.the pipelines of Mercury and Saab feature clones of cars from other divisions of their parents. Saab has yet to start developing anything as a replacement for the 9-5, whose platform is about 15 years old. both should be the victims of Renault coming to the US in 2010. Renault is like VW in terms of the models its offers, but has better reliability. as for Saturn, it is suffering greatly thanks to Hyundai and Scion. Recently Saturn killed the L-Series, its "premium" sedan. I can see Smart killing off whatever is left of Saturn when it arrives.and the next big thing: Diesels (after the 2007 regulations) and Hybrids. I doubt that the fuel cells will get off the ground anytime soon....and when they do come out, they will suffer the same fate that electric cars did.what do you guys think? nocfgs
Whats the deal with the 2007 regulations. I want some info on that.
bigpoppanils
Whats the deal with the 2007 regulations. I want some info on that.in 2007, all diesel fuel sold in the US will be sulfur free. Sulfer is the main ingredient in smog, and is the reason why most diesel engines fail to meet US regulations. After 2007, Daimler Chrysler and VW are planning to release a bunch of diesel engines. BMW & Toyota may do the same.
pgiddy
Mitsubishi fucked themselves and they're cars are worthless as soon as you drive it off the lot......they're done within a few years. I see the Americans making a strong comeback, lots of new product lines, somewhat innovative too. Japs are ahead of the game too, toyota and honda with the hybrids and they are solid overseas and always will be, or until they outlaw the rickshaw(sp). Germans, so ahead of the times and the engineering you can't fuck with, nuff said......Volvo, Saab will have it tough, seems like they are losing some market penetration, not sure about them. Fiat, Mercury, Renault, they are still around, wtf, they should just quit now. Oh and I see Oldsmobile quitting very soon
barslut
Call me crazy but i think with the japs the only way for them to go is down , I've noticed from a mechanical stand point and regarding overall fit an finish there cars have been going downhill over the past few years. pgiddy
Call me crazy but i think with the japs the only way for them to go is down , I've noticed from a mechanical stand point and regarding overall fit an finish there cars have been going downhill over the past few years.definitely, they have been losing market share, they already peaked a few yrs ago, only way to go is down for them. However, I still think mechanically there cars are still better then most, although seems like they are taking some shortcuts, but damn they are smart. So I guess I agree with you although I'm on the outside looking in, but I'll still call you crazy...
