A.F.A.C.T. presents

“The Head Doctor†- An Intimate Cabaret Experience

Especially for Couples

Title of Production:

“The Head Doctor†Intimate Interactive Theater for Couples by The Punany Poets

Opens: July 19, 2004 - Closes: July 25, 2004

Description:

The Head Doctor is a 90-minute dance and skit performance based on the HBO Real Sex showcase of The Punany Poets. The Punany Poets Founder Jessica Holter is "The Head Doctor" a sexy red headed siren that leads a cast of three and an intimate audience of 80 into a sensually gripping explosion of sexual tales of lust & desire, pleasure and pain, sin and shame. Poetry and R&B music lay the foundation for poems, short stories and prose pieces that tell gripping and sexually charged tales of 10 colorful characters all looking for validation through sex.

A housewife chained to her picket fence

A liquor store corner soap box preacher who lost her dreams in the bottle

A welfare mother standing in the welfare line with a terrible case of an itchy STD

A poor woman in love with a man who can not support her

A woman turns lesbain for fear of AIDS

A woman prepares for a one night stand when she has a religious experience that reveals potential death

A prostitute on the verge of suicide

A Madame on the prowl for sexual victims

A rape and molestation survivor

Set against a romantic backdrop of velvets and furs, The Head Doctor’s theatrical love den transforms from a bedroom to a seedy street corner during the course of the show. The production is enhanced with provocative exotic an modern dance, skits and audience roll play.

The Punany Poets have created a unique and refreshing approach to poetry performance that has been mimicked around the world since their HBO debut in 2000. Best describe as a poetical, this performance is not comparable to a monologue, but rather, is best described as a "poetical" - a musical in which poetry takes the place of song lyrics.

Editor-in-Chief of Playgirl Magazine, Michelle Zipp writes - "This is not a stuffy poetry reading, it will entice all you senses and all your emotions…The Punany Poets not only satisfy you with witty tongues, but they also

Promote AIDS awareness and safe intimacy between couples. Their bold performances aim to open communication between couples as well…they took their voices at turned them into anthems for female empowerment

…All praise the Punany!" (Playgirl Magazine)
