this week marks a few plain and simple truths: between now and the rest of the year, "i can't believe how quickly it passed" will ring like a broken record; you'll spend the next several weeks talking about how much you ate; and the word "diet" will be a has-been until 2005.

so what's the precursor to the "i'm so fat" conversations? turkey facts, of course. here's a rundown of some other things to to talk about this thanksgiving season:

fact no. 1: the "turkey trot" ballroom dance was originally named after a turkey's jerky movements.

fact no. 2: knock ketchup from a heinz bottle (for your leftover turkey sandwich), and it will come out at 25 mph.

fact no. 3: keep a turkey in the rain and you might have a problem. if they look up, there's a chance they could drown.

fact no. 4: the pilgrams' version of pumpkin pie was much simpler: it was a baked hallowed-out pumpkin filled with cream.

fact no. 5: only wild turkeys can fly.

fact no. 6: if you think you eat a lot, how about this: 525 million pounds of turkey are eaten nationwide on thanksgiving.

fact no. 7: the world's biggest turkey weighed 86 pounds (about the same size of a big german shepherd).

fact no. 8: turkeys' heads change color when they get excited.

fact no. 9: coca-cola was originally green.

fact no. 10: pilgrams once ate popcorn (without the movie) at their thanksgiving dinner.
