How about that as a reason to cheer for your team this year? Few people in baseball gave us any chance of signing Carlos Beltran when the off-season began. And I think it's fair to say that no one gave us any chance of signing both Carlos Beltran and Pedro Martinez. But as you know, Mets history teaches us that magic can happen. We are all thrilled to announce the addition of this year's premier free agent position player, to go along with the premier free agent pitcher. These signings reinforce our philosophy and strategy for winning: pitching and defense, speed, athleticism and youth. At 27 years old, Carlos Beltran is still realizing his full potential. He is a true five-tool player who actually has a sixth tool - his character and make-up will be a powerful positive influence in the clubhouse and dugout as well as on the field.
