2kool4school
Will this really beat the new M3? The fight will continue. The RS4 sits an inch lower than a standard A4 and the suspension, hood and front fenders are aluminum. The substitution of ultra-light RS buckets keeps weight down to 3850 pounds. The engine develops an M3-withering 418 hp at 7800 rpm and cracks 100 hp per liter. It delivers 90 percent of its 317 lb-ft (at 5500 rpm) of torque peak between 2250 and 7600 rpm. The rev limiter is set at a barely believable 8250 rpm. And if you think the 4.5 seconds Audi claims for the 0-to-60-mph sprint is impressive, 0 to 124 mph in 16.6 seconds turns the M3 into a distant spectator. 2kool4school
Engineers attempted to keep the weight down by employing aluminum on body panels and suspension parts, but the car still weighs a rather chunky 3600 pounds. We predict that the upcoming 400-hp V-8 BMW M3 will be at least 150 lbs less. Audi claims the RS4 can achieve 62 mph in 4.8 seconds, which is about what we predict the next M3 will do. Even if the RS4 can't shake an M3 on a road course, it may be able to beat its BMW counterpart on looks--a revised front fascia, larger tailpipes, and lightweight wheels effectively portray a much more aggressive stance than the common S4. We'll find out who takes the next round of the classic Ingolstadt-Munich rivalry as soon as we can get our hands on both of these highly desirable Teutonic muscle cars. 3rdflapartamnt
New Car and Driver Sept '05 they test a Audi RS4 against the current M3 and a C55 Benz. The first thing that caught my eye was the estimated price of $80,000 for the RS4. The C55 and M3 are 13.3 secs for the 1/4 mile and the M3 is 13.6. 0-60 times are 4.8 secs for the Audi and M3, the C55 is 4.7. I would rather save $20,000 and buy the Benz or BMW anyday. Not impressed at all. dgmodel

bigpoppanils
when CAR tested it, they said while it was fast, it was a bit too sporty for its own good. The ride was way too stiff for daily driving. Unlike the previous S4, it was not an all-rounder.and claiming to be lightweight at 3850 pounds is a joke. 2kool4school

There is also no way BMW will push their price up to $80,000 as Audi has done with the RS4. Good luck to Audi with this one. 3rdflapartamnt
