BILL HARMONIC

In 2001 DJ Bill Harmonic began his career like many others did; playing old records, on bad turntables, with a good friend. That friend, Derek C. realized Bill’s skills were developing at a rapid pace and encouraged him to share his new passion with an audience. Bills record collection was a bit thin for the mainstream crowd but his skills filled the gap. He easily grabbed up guest spots at local pubs & clubs on the North Shore. Bills first underground party was a Sunday afternoon event called Beats n Eats. He played along side Boston favorites such as Joshua Carl & Randy Deshaies. It wasn’t long before Bill picked up his own night, a commercial house night on Saturday called Play at club Avanti on Rt. 1. He began to develop his signature style of funky vocal house which evolves into a more driving beat as the night progresses. With the success of Play, the owner asked Bill and Derek to develop another night for the club. They chose to do a more underground format that would prove to be the foundation for his career. Bill took the helm of the new endeavor like a fish to water and picked up a new friend/ partner, DJ Kevin Nazty. Violation, a strictly non-commercial electronic music night, encouraged local talent of all electronic genres to get together to share music and skills. Bill & Violation were making some serious noise and the night soon moved to one of the North Shore most coveted clubs, Tantra.

As Bill’s skills and record collection grew, he was invited to play guest spots at Vision Sunday’s along side DJ Manolo and at the Sunrise Afterhours (the area’s hottest party at the time) with DJ Rick Naples. Rick also invited Bill to do his first gig in Boston at Pravda, an up scale club with a full dance floor. Bill whipped the room in frenzy with his mix of funky house, soulful vocals and progressive beats. Bill continued to do guest spots around New England, including opening sets for DJs Funk & Irene at the Diplomat and Sunday Mass in VT with Paul Dailey. With residents Bill Harmonic & Kevin Nazty, Violation was going strong for two yearsan a year. Together along with Derek C. & Heather J. they took Violation to Club Q in Boston’s Faneuil hall. Over the next year Bill worked diligently in the studio perfecting his skills and began recording CD’s of all flavors. He played guest spots on Salem State Radio, NH’s Beat Khemistry Radio & WERS Boston. Bill also played with Paul Dailey @ Water Club in Quincy and again with Naples @ Pravda before Violation hit its two year anniversary. Bill Harmonic’s DJ career has been on a fast track since its inception. This motivated musician will surly reach great heights, so sit back and enjoy his ride...

DEREK CONANT

At an early age Derek’s interest in music became a passion. Not long after he realized music’s potential as a tool of business. Through the late 80’s and early 90’s D worked with several rock bands as their drummer. His experiences in the studios and rock clubs were an early incite into a business he is now devoted to.

In the late 90’s, while serving as an Army Ranger, Derek became very close to a team mate who lived just outside of Manhattan. He found himself receiving an education in the NYC club scene during one it’s most notorious times. Limelight, Tunnel, & Palladium were world renown for the DJs they booked and the scope of their visual productions. The professionalism and flawless execution of the massive events he attended on a regular basis would set the bar for his own future events.

After returning home to Boston in 1998 with a head full of ideas and ambition, Derek set out to develop his skills. He purchased DJ equipment, enrolled in college, and began planning for events that he aspired to produce. With each tribulation came wisdom, and Derek used it to develop the events that are the basis of his reputation today.

2001 inspired the launch of Derek’s production company Double Down. With partners Bill Harmonic and Kevin Nazty, Double Down developed a party called Violation. The concept was, “where the party people come to playâ€. More than 200 DJ’s & producers came from all over New England to play during the event’s two year run. The event was industry driven and gained the respect needed to propel a fledgling production company on to the next level.

With all other obstacles conquered, D finally has had time to fall back to his original passion, music! With inspirations such as Eric Morillo, Roger Sanchez, Steve Porter, and DT Derek continues developing his DJ skills and is looking forward to production. His final goal is to share his own flavor of music with the patrons who have already enjoyed his events…
