michaelmartin
No disrespect intended....a no comment on this would be easier ...but damn Y100 is seriously not caring about this music or its culture ...its all about money probally n less about the people who love this music (electronic).. It dont matter what sound it is ..its leaders should be the DJS (dj culture ) if Y-100 wants to represent a tru picture for dance music n its TRU audience ..why not concentrate on the djs ...n the music they play ... not just programming the "HITS" or mainstream club tunes ..that means..Why not focus or even better " HELP " expose local, national, and world known djs ...??? HEre..in the MECCA of dance music ...south florida ...where we have the WMC ever year ..ohh and something called ULTRA ... yet ..when those 2 impressive events come to town ..there is NO station that can host an exclusive confrence dj set by guys like ......James Zabiela...Luke FAir..Dj icey ..dj Craze..Roland...Darren Emerson...Nic Fanciulli ..Eddie Halliwell...Sven VAth ..Dieselboy...Stryke..Felix DA housecat...Paul VAn Dyk ..Taylor..Roni Size...Carl Cox....lol get the pic!!but WTF thats only silly talk RIGHHTT!!!! ....lol
sobeton
you start with tiny steps, before talking big steps. at least Y100 is making an effort, for that I applaud them. perhaps the critics and such should apply their vast EDM and broadcast insight, and develop their own show... As long as 95% of the radio listening population here in Miami accept this as a true medium of our art form the program directors have no real need to put any effort into searching out diversity and/or cutting edge music that truly represents our culture…yes sure they are about money…I believe 1st and foremost over-all….they may have a passion for music, but money and the boss in the ivory tower will always dictate what is allowable….that is anything but ignorant – its smart business…and if anything its just a general disregard for quality over quantity. Now you will have people here that will say programming like this (cutting edge diverse dance music) doesn’t work blah, blah, blah – but you have to examine the market…look at places like NY, Chicago, Dallas and I would assume there are other markets that pertain as well – all those cities have and still have successful underground programming on mainstream radio stations – they follow a basic formula similar to what is presented above….weekends Fri/Sat late nights – in Chicago alone you can go all the way back to WBMX (Hot mix 5) – Farley Jack Master Funk, Hurley…Bad Boy Bill…to stations like B96…to Q101 with Justin long…and last but not least WGCI. All have successful non-mainstream dance programming – but that city (Chicago) is musically diverse and a more educated scene in general and I can say the population in numbers alone permits for such diversity…its all in the numbers. Until there is a sizable demand for the music we love here in Miami to be played over the mainstream waves, the supply will always fall short and what we will get is the highly processed preservative loaded cheese for the masses when the cultural core of our scene so obviously longs for the quality edgy music we know and love.
