For the last 3 months since we kicked off Tension, we have been bringing in soldiers week after week. This week the Boston Breaks family will be both hosting a breaks soldier of one kind, and sending off another. Our very own Joshua Carl will be leaving us to serve his duties with the military. It's been a long time since the creation of this breaks night was in the works and Joshua Carl has been there every step of the way. He assisted in creating this night, he has assisted in pushing this night and I am positive he will be pushing to get back to it as soon as he can. He is a true supporter, a great man and a true breaks enthusiast. This Wednesday we celebrate in the send off of a friend, a father, a husband, and a boston breaks brother as he journey's onto a different path. Please join us as Joshua provides opening duties for one of his favorite breaks producers this Wednesday. May the beat of the drums always be in your thoughts!

Ed209, the west London breaks producer/DJ has come along way since the days of dodgy pirate radio and Jungle. Spinning from the tender age of 14 he now finds himself playing regularly at heavyweight events such as Raindance, Best Of British, Breakbeat Connection, Innovation, Essence of Chi, Trigger, and Back To The Old School, not to mention all the parties abroad and the pyrotechnicradio.com and Breaks fm shows that he manages to maintain.

Ed209’s DJ diary has become so busy because of productions like “Fight Alone†being signed as the intro track for the “Ils Y4k†mix CD to Infectious that was signed to the Freestyler's Fabric live mix CD, Ed209 has also found himself doing collaborations with the mighty Phil Hartnoll of Orbital and also working with label partner Ollywood

Ed209’s and Ollywood’s Hardcore Beats, the most disgusting Tear-out Breakbeat label in existence, was initially set-up by DJ Deekline in 2000. A sister label to Rat Records, its purpose: to release Breakbeat tunes of a more “Hardcore†nature.

Pioneering the Tear-out sound: the frantic, anthemic energy of Drum & Bass, rolling along at Breakbeats funkier tempo, has led to award-winning mix cds, 1000+ people raves and 4 years later, Rat and Hardcore Beats going their separate ways. Ollie continues to work on the much-loved sick Hardcore Beats bastard, after merging the company with Ed209’s Wireframe Records in 2005.

With a history of nurturing fresh new talent, these now infamous artists include Ed209 himself, Control Z, Screwface, Angel Farringdon, Sensi Allstars, Distortionz, DJ Quest, DJ Mutiny, Baobinga & I.D., Shimano and Napt. With some new-comers waiting to explode in 2006.

Ollywood and Ed209 and the artists involved continue to play out all over the world, with HB nights promoted in Australia, Hungary, Japan, Israel, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Holland, USA, Belgium, Serbia, Romania, Canada, France and of course Spain, home of the biggest Tear-out raves!

Over the years the stable has received major support from a veritable who’s who of the Breakbeat scene: Stanton Warriors, The Freestylers, DJ Icey, Plump DJ’s, The Autobots, Breakfastaz, Tayo, Freq Nasty, Ellis Dee, Ratpack, Krafty Kutz, Shut Up & Dance! Aquasky, Simply Jeff, Uberzone, Rennie Pilgrem, Ils, Slipmatt, The Ragga Twins. And received a major boost recently when Orbital’s Phil Hartnoll got in touch with Ed209 about a possible collaboration, admitting he’d been a big fan of Ed’s big-bass sound for ages. The result, “Dr Hoover†was running all over the Cool Cuts and DJ Mag charts.

There’s plenty more mayhem in store, with monthly releases on HB and WF, and the second installment of the Hardcore Beats mix series, mixed by Ollywood & Ed209 and featuring MC Fearless on hosting duties, out now.
