reboundnyc
Saturday, August 12, 2006Brothers’ Brothers, Five Grand Stereo and FunkNYC Present the Rebound Summer DJ Series!ReboundWithMetro Area and Bruce Tantum. This week, Metro Area (Environ) and Bruce Tantum (Time Out NY) bring the music to the Water Taxi Beach. The Water Taxi Beach is a beautiful beach (check the photos: Water Taxi Beach) located in Long Island City with amazing views of the city. So wear the flip-flops you can dance in! There’s also a HUGE tented, wooden floor for dusting it up!Metro Area preceded the current nu-disco movement by four years. The duo, made up of Morgan Geist and Darshan Jesrani, was born out of a dichotomous love for old moods of R&B and boogie and cutting-edge house and techno. Since their enormously popular, self-titled, breakout record in 2002, Metro Area have continued to tour and produce, splicing their warm, techy mirrorball-music with influences ranging from Detroit future house to European acid jazz.Bruce Tantum has been a staple of downtown NYC music scene for a long-time. His minimalist-pop band Moot was a regular fixture at such long-defunct legendary venues as the Mudd Club, Danceteria and the Peppermint Lounge. He’s also played his blend of odd-ball disco and high-quality house at about every club, lounge and scuzzed-out basement and warehouse in New York.Probus and Justin Carter, residents from Nublu start off the evening with sounds from punk funk to techno.
