When you step inside the funky, soul-flavored house built by Brian Varga (aka Halo), get ready to be moved. This Chicago bred, House-fed DJ has been wreckin decks everywhere from Japan to Korea, Brazil, Australia, Israel, Africa, Turkey, and back to North America, currently capturing the scene in Southern California. He’s been groovin London’s Fabric now for four years as a bi-monthly resident, and he’s no stranger to gracing stages with the most infamous faces in electronic culture. Now, with a successful solo production career, a new album and a national tour in the making, Halo’s house has the whole block rockin.

Inspiration was always close to home for Halo; born in Chicago of 1974, he was introduced to house music in the city most notorious for constructing it. He recalls attending underground loft parties and witnessing such visionaries as Gene Hunt,Larry Heard,Diz, DJ Frique, Glenn Underground, Frankie Knuckles, Boo Williams and countless others who enticed his developing passion for Djing. Taking to the decks at a mere 13 years of age, Halo was quick to create alliances with hometown DJ’s and rapidly began releasing solo and joint projects on Chicago’s Moody Recordings.

As the Midwestern dance scene grew stale, Halo craved to move somewhere that had a fresh, untapped scene. Halo fell in love with San Diego and relocated, bringing his chicago roots out west with former friend Hipp-e under the group name H-Foundation. Anxious to do more than just spin records, Halo launched his own Bluem Recordings in 2001, which celebrates almost twenty releases from such legendary producers as DJ Deep, Frank Rogers, Fresh & Low, Andre Harris, Jay-J, Souldoubt and Charles Webster.

Halo also recorded for a number of premium house labels including Large, Seasons, Nordic Trax, NRK, Om and Yoshitoshi and has remixed tracks by Afromystik, Sumo, Heather, Nigel Hayes, Morgan Page and many more. Selections from his discography appear on such high profile compilations as Mark Farina’s Connect, Ben Watt and Jay Hannan’s Lazy Dog Volume 1, Jay-J’s and Miguel Migs’ In the House and Kaskade’s Soundtrack to the Soul. Motivated by the success stories behind Masters at Work, Blaze, Kerri Chandler and DJ Deep, Halo is focused on continuous producing and the building of powerful relationships for future projects.

Behind the decks, Halo remains among the most respected in the industry and continues to assert that Djing is his first passion. His productions, which reside in the record boxes of the world’s top tastemakers, are equally valued. He’s traveled around the world spreading his deep, melodic vibes, and he’s played alongside some of the best: Louie Vega, Mark Farina, and Marques Wyatt, to name a few. His next-up projects include collaborations with Marlon D., Alix Alvarez, Mr. V and more studio work for his City Deep Music label. Bottom line: Halo’s house is definitely where the heart is.
