In this dog eat dog climate, only the strong promoters survive. And, in order to do that, it is imperative to carve out a niche, and own it. Take Jordan Harris’ Bloc Group who has been aiming to own Wednesday nights in the city.* He recently started help host the Wednesday night party at Bijoux, aptly named Candyland. He’s following in the footsteps of Dual Groupe’s Koch Brothers (Saturday Brunch niche), The Strategic Group (Marquee/Tao fame), and Pink Elephant’s Rocco Ancarola among others. The bottom line is, if you’re a promoter and you haven’t cornered a sliver of the market, but rather have an unfocused macro approach you are most likely in some murky waters.
