This week @ Killswitch: Dave Aju (Circus Co, Mag 7), The Tourist (Mag 7) & Mossmoss (Racecar,Nightlight)! About Dave Aju: San Francisco native Dave Aju has been producing and performing his unique brand of electronic dance music for nearly a decade. He seasons traditional elements of house and techno with a blend of outside musical influences, notably free jazz and p-funk, a low-slung aesthetic clearly rooted in hip-hop, and an organic sonic approach akin to Musique Concréte. The result is a consistently fresh and expressive sound, varying from raw and percussive to deep and melodic, that is favored by an ever-increasing number of listeners, dancers, DJs, and producers around the world. His in demand status has taken him from Moscow to Mexico City, the highly-respected Mutek Festival, and has garnered support from a who's-who of forward-thinking peers, from hometown heroes Sutekh and Kit Clayton to the illustrious Matthew Herbert, who has recently commissioned Aju to release material on his Accidental label. His recent debut full-length, Open Wide, is currently causing a stir in the electronic music community with it's bold diversity of musical styles and the strict but effective use of only his mouth to construct it. About the Tourist: The Tourist has been keeping his whites clean and his electronic music (and martinis) dirty, since the early nineties. While starting off as a DJ initially satisfied his thirst for electronic music, the desire to produce his version of the music he was playing, came shortly thereafter. Coming from a varied musical family, The Tourist's influences are fittingly all over the map - You're as likely to hear nods to Sonic Youth and Zeppelin, as you are to underground hip-hop dons, Sacred Hoop and techno legend, Neil Landstrumm. His general disdain for music scene politics keeps him a little further from the clubs than many of his peers, resulting in a truly unique style, untainted by overpopulated trends and ideas, relying more on what he encounters on a daily basis for musical inspiration. Whether it's the last dusty record he left on the platter, the last sip of Jameson, the last goal scored by Man U, or the last argument he got in to, you can find bits and pieces of it all, in his electronic outbursts. As a fixture in the San Francisco music scene for over a decade, The Tourist has proved to be relentless in his mission to provide something a little different for the Bay Area and the global music community. nbsp; About Mossmoss: Mossmoss brings a breath of fresh air to a club scene that is usually bent on taking itself too seriously. Scottish born, Mattie Bowen has been essential in the growth of techno and actively inspires audiences through art visually and aurally. His pursuits all deeply exude a level of class, compassion, and charisma. His own breed of minimal techno born from the bedrooms and studios of San Francisco offers a hint of a vast repertoire to come that inspires the mind and body simultaneously. Mossmoss was one of three artists featured on Race Car Productions Volume 1, their virgin effort. Since then he released an absolute powerhouse of a remix for Monocle's Dilleniidae which stole dancefloors the world over in 2007. With a wide open career in both art and music, and a new Ep on Alland Byallo's NLMX net label, Mossmoss will become a household name." Music: techno, minimal, house, tech house, acid, electro, disco
