with Nosaj Thing, Giraffage, Joaquin Bartra, Chad Salty, Brogan In honor of Noise Pop’s 21st birthday, NightLife presents “Now that You’re 21, Let’s Talk Liquor,†an in-depth look at the origins behind the booze behind the bar, and the botany that goes into it. Noise Pop is bringing their own lineup (BYOL) to the party: Nosaj Thing, whose upcoming release Home builds on a highly acclaimed first album, Drift, and follows numerous collaborations with artists like The XX, Flying Lotus, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and others; and Giraffage, the creation of 21-year-old multi-instrumentalist/producer Charlie Yin, evoking a woozy yet familiar feeling that keeps fans coming back for more. Look for additional sets by DJs Joaquin Bartra in the east pavilion, plus Chad Salty and Brogan Bentley in the coral reef. Noise Pop NightLife is an official Noise Pop festival pre-party. NOSAJ THING It’s been three years since the release of Nosaj Thing’s highly acclaimed debut album, Drift, which topped countless Best Of Year Lists, but 2013 will mark a new chapter for the 27-year-old producer, musician and DJ from Los Angeles. With a new album, label and imprint for Innovative Leisure, Home marks the first time Nosaj has incorporated guest vocalists. Having remixed and worked with the likes of The XX, Flying Lotus, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Beck & Kendrick Lamar, it was time to incorporate a few collaborations of his own with Toro y Moi and Kazu Makino (Blonde Redhead) providing ethereal vocals for two of the tracks on Home. The rest of the album is rounded with Nosaj’s signature cinematic soundscapes that explore the space from where Drift left off. GIRAFFAGE Giraffage is the creation of 22-year old multi-instrumentalist/producer Charlie Yin of San Francisco, California. Currently signed to Alpha Pup Records, the general sound of Giraffage is described as a weaver of refreshingly crisp electro dream pop tunes that thread their way through loose-knit grooves and tightly-toothed rhythms. Gaining inspiration from things as diverse as dreams or the weather, Giraffage evokes a woozy yet familiar mood that is sure to stimulate your eardrums and leave you feeling a sense of nostalgia and melancholy. JOAQUIN BARTA Joaquin Bartra is a San Francisco based DJ and resident of Lights Down Low. He is closely affiliated with artists from Body High, Fade to Mind and Mixpak. Around peak hours, he plays regional urban club music from different areas of the United States. If it’s earlier, you might hear him play dancehall and Bay Area r’n’b. Whatever it is, just grab a girl and dance. Butros. CHAD SALTY Once the head student DJ at the now defunct KUSF, Chad Heimann discovered his eclectic music tastes on the air before moving out of the radio station and into the city's various clubs and at Coachella after parties opening up for Atari Teenage Riot, Keep Shelly In Athens, Teams, Giraffage, RYAT, Gardens & Villa, Penguin Prison and DJ Skeet Skeet. Meshing his love of beat centered bass heavy dance music, hipster indie bangers, and minimalism, no set is ever the same and always gets a crowd moving. BROGAN BENTLEY As a 3rd generation Californian, the musical essence of 23 year old Producer/DJ Brogan Bentley is forever linked to the mysticism of his native land. Be it the twilight hours in the forest or the late night hours in the inner-city, Bentley's sonic landscaped effortlessly integrate the surrounding environments and moods. Having released his debut EP on Los Angeles' Leaving Records in the summer of 2012, his collaboration with fellow California producer Suzanne Kraft will be featured on the Dublab's forthcoming compilation "Lights from Los Angeles". He maintains a weekly DJ residency at SF's esteemed venue Monarch, where he delivers sets that posses both depth and energy simultaneously, never straying far from the importance of rhythm and the dance.
