Norway is Number 1 again...

They are wealthy, well educated and have a high life expectancy. For the fourth consecutive year, Norway was ranked as the best country to live in by the UN’s Human Development Index.

The aim of the Human Development Index is to give an indication of the developmental level in the countries in the world based on more than just the country’s income and economy.

Since 1990, the report has every year measured countries development based on education, life expectancy and average income.

While Norway ended on top of the list for the forth consecutive year, Sierra Leone, which is still struggling with the destructions of the civil war, end at the bottom of the list as number 177 for the seventh time.

Once again Sweden is listed as number two followed by Australia, Canada and the Netherlands. The US is listed as number eight, and Great Britain is number 11. Denmark ends up as number 17.

However, not everything is top notch in Norway even if the country occupy first place. Almost 10 percent of all Norwegians can not write and read properly, and more than 8 percent of all children born in Norway today do not live past the age of 60.

A total of 6.4 percent of Norway’s population are living under the poverty land which is less than half of the income of an average household. In spite of the high percentage, only Sweden has fewer poor than Norway.
