Dated one for several years also. But my thing is not a phobia, it's the result of 12 years experience, living there, having french friends, roomating with french, visiting often. I always thought there had to be something interesting about a culture closely associated with some of the finer things in life (arts, fashion, fine dining, fine wine, etiquette, etc.) but in the end there isn't.
