I love you guys! It amuses me to be able to go from talking about Apple-vs-Microsoft to left-vs-right to capitalist-vs-socialist in one place with a bunch of people who actually have lives and go out to night clubs and stuff.

As long as when we're out at those clubs, we leave our message board fodder at home.

again, college degrees mean nothing these days. it's all personal achievement.

Unfortunately this is incorrect.

The school name and the letters give a certain perceived pedigree (rightly or wrongly).

It's stupid for the most part, but it exists.

and i agree to disagree. you can slice it anyway you want but if you've got savvy for what makes you good at one thing, a college degree is just a bonus on your resume.

I can only speak for myself, but the BBA in Finance I had was THE key component in my promotion to Vice President of the bank at 25. Yeah, I had been an Asst. Manager of a bank, but that was quite a leap. I needed that sheepskin. Otherwise, they couldn't justify someone of my age in the position.

right on

...not like the clueless shameless mofo's that post on other forums

Bachlors in Chemistry specializing in Biochemistry and Health Professions with a minor in math and marine biology from the University of South Florida

The last three below are what i specalize in professionally. I've worked on everything from GM's first electric car, to Airplanes, Drugs: from protease inhibitors to synthetic hormone replacers, from growing bacteria to working on cadavers

A Chemical is a Substance that:

An organic chemist turns into a foul odor.

An analytical chemist turns into a procedure.

A physical chemist turns into a straight line.

A biochemist turns into a helix.

A chemical engineer turns into a profit.

You Might Be a Chemist if...

you carry your lab safety goggles around with you at all times, just in case...

you don't drink water, you drink H2O.

you start disagreeing with movies and TV shows on scientific aspects.

you carry a base solution around with you at all times, just in case one of those freak Hydrochloric acid spills happen.

you become very agitated when people refer to air as Oxygen, and proceed to list all of the components of air.

instead of writing ozone you write O3.

you start referring to the smell of nail polish remover as an acetone smell.

you no longer ask for Tylenol, you ask for acetaminophen.

you actually enjoy going to Chemistry class.

you think a mole is a unit of amount, rather than a small furry animal in your lawn.

you pronounce unionized as "un-ion-ized", instead of "union-ized".

you wash your hands before you go to the bathroom.

you start explaining the condensation of water vapour every time your soda can has water drops and people think water is coming out of the can.

How chemists do it...

Chemists do it reactively.

Chemists do it in test tubes.

Chemists do it in equilibrium.

Chemists do it in the fume hood.

Chemists do it in an excited state.

Chemists do it periodically on table.

Chemists do it organically and inorganically.

Electrochemists do it with greater potential.

;DPolymer chemists do it in chains.

;DPharmaceutical chemists do it with drugs.

;DAnalytical chemists do it with precision and accuracy.

of course, the industry depends. look, if you can get enough money and successfully run a small business, 8 out of 10 times, a college degree wont make a difference. and again, i think advanced degrees are *very* important ....but in most cases, it doesnt translate that you'll receive all the necessary skills to be successful or even socially graceful.

What a boring thread! ::):P

My other thread "who pays taxes..??" has over 79 posts so far so :P

I did it to lighten up some of these knock down, drag out battle royals we're having in the other threads.

bs finance, bs marketing FSU (went to class most of the time)

your degree is a sign you have some sort of education, and the capacity to learn. it goes on a resume, and that gets you in the door, its your ethic and personality that keeps you there.

True. Most successul small business owners were trouble makers in high school, but good at making "connections". A degree doesn't guarantee success, but it does give you a headstart in banking/finance, medicine, and law.

how come some people with advanced degrees are such geeks like Engineering students or Scientists? i've seen lots people with no social skills...and by this i mean people who cant articulate well much less act normal in every day situations....i am just saying

of course a college degree is a huge step ahead of the game but it doesnt guarantee a job ....point and case.

Worked for Merrill Lynch International for 7 years and after 9/11 you can imagine what happened. Currently working for my uncle who invented a software back in 1980 which is catered to US Customs and the Import and Export industry. Allot of changes have been implemented to our software recently considering the new Patriot Act.
