On Sunday, the New York Times Magazine published a vicious hatchet-job on President Bush's faith. This was their stensible effort to balance their coverage of the two principal presidential candidates. First a shameless puff piece on Senator Kerry, "balanced" two weeks later by an attack piece on the President's faith. That is apparently the 2004 definition of balance at the once-venerable New York Times.

If you want to truly understand the President's faith, you can hear George W. Bush describe it in his own words in a remarkable 28-minute documentary entitled Inner Strength: the Role of Faith in the Public Lives of George W. Bush, Rick Santorum and Zell Miller. This fast-paced documentary traces the tradition of American Presidents from Washington to the present speaking about their faith. It is augmented by Senators Santorum and Miller speaking about their own faith in addition to their close-hand observations of President Bush's faith in action.

President Bush speaks of the importance of faith in his own life regularly, but most people never have the opportunity to hear him on this critically important subject. Why? Because news editors, when they review the footage shot by television pool coverage or by their own network cameras, routinely edit those remarks out. In Inner Strength, they are edited in.

Original interviews with these other close observers of the President are included in Inner Strength:

David Aikman, author of A Man of Faith

Stephen Mansfield, author of The Faith of George W Bush

Janet Parshall, host of Salem Radio Network's Janet Parshall's America

Dr. Richard Land, Director of the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission

Dr. Robert P. George, Professor of Jurisprudence at Princeton University

Pastor Herbert Lusk, II, former NFL player and now Pastor of Greater Exodus Baptist Church in Philadelphia

i think it is far more vicious to use this religion to try and appeal to voters.

btw the NYT magazine had a great weekend cover story on gay couples and children raised by them.
