The big deal Pod is that not everyone here in Miami listens to hip-hop and techno music. Some of us prefer Rock n Roll. And I will agree that Zeta did play pretty crappy rock sometimes. But I'd rather have a rock station to listen to, than none at all.

Well, I listen to rock and such too.

However, I have these magical round things with me called CDs, and a little silver box called an MP3 player. Rather than let a mass market station tell me what is hip, I listen to what I want, when I want, sans the inane chatter of so-called radio personalities. And with podcasting, I can still listen to their inane chatter if I feel like it.

Besides, rock died in 1992. Rock is dead, long live paper and scissors.

Welcome to the 21st century, I'll gladly sell you a clue for $20 a hit.

94.9 passing on is a sign of the times...all the FM stations haven't the foggiest on how to compete with satellite, the internet, podcasting and so forth. Step up and leave your antiquated media behind.

Spanish stations are more than just reggaeton ::) For those non-spanish listeners that's the only you'll recognize only that music but if you listen to spanish stations (El Zol) like I do they play lots more salsa, merengue and bachata than raggaeton itself. Just like every other station they have to play what the majority of the audience wants to listen. Especially after 5pm

Amen, brotha! Although I'm disappointed Zeta is gone, satellite is the way to go. Screw Clear Channel and the the FCC.

Rock died in 1992? I gues certain bands didn't get that memo. Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Audioslave, Jane's Addiction, Tool, The Strokes, Nine Inch Nails, Foo Fighters, Velvet Revolver, A Perfect Circle. Rock n Roll is alive and well, it might not sell as many records as it once did, but that's due to illegal downloading and the internet. Why pay for something when you can get it for free?

Apotheosis give it time. Eventually we will get a rock radio station down here. Clear Channel would be very stupid not to

air another rock station down here.

All crap except for Nine Inch Nails, Tool, and Velvet Revolver.

NIN is industrial rock though...hell, Sin is an industrial dance track!

But what I mean is that there has been pretty much schlock since then.

Face it, rock has taken a major beating in the past 15 years. The music is blah, and the people doing it are blah. Yes, I lust for the days of bands causing riots and trashing their hotel rooms and banging porn stars. Shoegazing bitch rock and "nu-metal" are the bane of the industry.

Nonetheless, don't hold your breath for a rock station down here. Spend the bucks, get an XM receiver, and be happy. Don't think FM will save the day.

So are you saying that you long for the days of hair metal? About 90%-95% of those bands sucked. Yeah Rock might not be what it was in 1992 or 1993, but that was all hype. I'd rather listen to musicians than so called rock stars like the guys from Poison, Winger or Warrant anyday.

Oh, those guys weren't talented at all. Don't get me wrong in the least. What I long for is the lifestyle. At least they knew how to enjoy life and not be all moody like 99 percent of today's "rock stars".

When's the last time Eddie Vedder incited a civil disturbance?

Vedder is a musican, not a rock star. He knows that being on the cover of magazines, and endorsing products is not important. It's all about the music. And if the music is good it will stand the test of time. By the way in 1994 there was a riot at a Pearl Jam show in downtown Miami.

It's all about the music. OK.

They say that while they drive BMWs and live in huge homes. At least the rock stars of the 80s fessed up to it. Today's rockers whine and moan too much considering where they are at in life.

That's why I don't decry the bling bling phenomenon. Rappers make it big and don't do the false modesty bit.

As for the Pearl Jam riot? Compare that to the many civil disturbances caused by Guns N Roses. ;D

Back to the topic at hand though, Zeta should have been taken behind the barn and shot a long time ago.

I guess he still does'nt realize he won't win this discussion, huh Pod :P.

I wonder how many pages long this will be with only you two going back and forth......that or he just gets banned mysteriously ::)!!!!

The Pearl Jam "riot" at Bayfront was caused by Eddie Vedder refusing to go on until the AT&T banner over the stage was removed. The fact that the band had already agreed to perform at what was then known as "AT&T Ampitheater" seemed of little consequence to the singer, who seemed more interested in "making a statement" than rocking out for his fans.

I guess it's difficult for me to take Vedder's anti-corporation antics seriously. After all, his band is signed to Sony.

GOOD BYE ZETA 94.9

Zeta 94.9 dumps rock music format

BY CHRISTINA HOAG

choag@herald.com

Fans of WZTA FM 94.9 got a rude awakening this morning -- their progressive rock station is broadcasting Air America's news and sports talk.

Radio industry sources said that the station, owned by Clear Channel Communications, is preparing to switch to a Spanish-language format. Zeta's on-air personnel have been laid off. The station's website also went blank, displaying only a message ``this site is experiencing technical difficulties.''

Clear Channel executives in Miramar, San Antonio and New York, did not return The Herald's phone calls Friday morning.

Clear Channel, the nation's largest radio broadcaster, announced last September that it would aggressively seek entree into the hot Spanish-language radio market by converting about two dozen stations across the country to español.

Ten days ago, it flipped Orlando station WEBG-FM 100.3 to a Spanish pop format to be called Rumba 100.3.

Clear Channel owns seven stations in the South Florida market. Zeta's ratings had been lagging for some time

There ya have it. That's the thing, CC doesn't have a big entry in the Latin market, so they flipped a low-rated station to the format.

Vote with your wallets and go XM if it bothers you so much. ;D

The good old days of good free radio are over.....

Satelite radio, IPod's, MP3 players, and custom made CD's are the future of good music for the user :)

Actually Saintjohn they are no longer signed to Sony. And it wasn't even really a riot. A lot of people just got upset because the show was sold out. Therefore there were tons of people jumping the fence to get into Bayfront park.
