No no no AR remember that due to away goal rules, each away goal scored counts as 2 pts. Therefore, Bayern and Chelsea are basically tied due to the 4-2 score.

So when Chelsea goes to Germany and plays Chelsea must either win or tie 1-1. If they tie 0-0 then the game will be determined on penalities.

You're wrong Alex. The "away" goal rule only comes in effect if both teams are tied in points and in goal average. So right now, Chelsea's goal average is +2, while Bayern's -2.

If next game Bayern wins 1-0, the global will be Chelsea 4- Bayern 3 and Chelsea will advance, because of their better goal average.

Now, if Bayern wins 2-0, then they will be tied in goal average (0), and ONLY then, the "away goal" rule will be in effect, thus making Bayern advance to the semi-finals. ;)

Champions League Quarterfinal

Chelsea vs. Bayern on ESPN2 now...

That was a helluva match! Chelsea is simply on fire right now.

Not sure who it was against (Barcelona maybe?)... but I saw a clip of 'Goals of the Week'... and they worked the ball almost the entire pitch, precision pass after precision pass, and ended with an absolutely sick finish.. by either Cole or Lampard, can't remember.

That play alone was a microcosm of the current zone this team is in. I look for them to shut Bayern down completely on the 12th. Both Bayern's goals the other day were complete luck... and the last one was utter foolishness. Can't STAND when some puss takes a dive and the ref doesn't catch it. >:(

Anyway... I'm betting on a 2 or 3 to nil on the rematch. Can't wait for it...

I actually like the away goal rule. it makes the game the games much more interesting. En la Copa Libertadores, a few years ago, I seem to remember a final between Boca and some Brazilian team.

Now, the first game tied 1-1 or 0-0, then the second game ended up 3-3. Since they don't have the away goal rule, they were tied and had to go to penalty kicks, which suck. If they had the european rule, the team that scored 3 goals a s a visitor would have won, which seems to me more fair, having scored allthose goals as a visitor and count the same as the ones from the home team. :P
