Guest slamminshaun
I had a chance to party at Vertigo while I was in San Jose. Very nice place considering the rest of the surrounding neighborhood was a shit hole. El Pueblo was a trip....I thought at any minute I was going to get jumped. And of course, I just read this happened: " A local security guard ran amok with a machinegun and shot up one of the discos, triggering the U.S. Embassy to declare El Pueblo off limits for their personnel." Not to mention more than a few trance parties in the mountains, weekly release sessions at El Yos, and general unity and togetherness through music ;DEl Pueblo is such a tourist trap.. can be fun but eh.. try some of the places over by the U.. Calle de la Amarguda, etc.. El Yos over by Mall San Pedro, and anywhere else listed on www.sentidourbano.com
Guest Mr._Jangles
I LOOOOOOOVE COSTA RICA!!!!! I went down there 2 years ago to take an intensive Spanish course over the summer and absolutely fell in love with it! Is the standard of living there as high as the US? Well no, but people are generally more relaxed and happy. As they say "Pura vida." Ticos are my people! I compare Costa Rica as the Holland of Central/South America because of the warmth of the people, blind eye to marijuana use, and legalized prostitution. It's funny though because I didn't know about that whole scene then, I went to a disco and all these aggressive girls were hitting on me. I thought I was the hottest fucker ever... come to find out they were playing me for a john! Oh well.Been back 3 times since and I actually got some gigs this past April to play in Tamarindo, Jaco, Playa Hermosa, and Cocos. I tell you, straight up, BEST EXPERIENCE OF MY DJING "CAREER" EVER!!!!! My last gig brought out 935 people in Playa Hermosa and they were LOVING it!! They really dig the music, but their access is severely limited to "Castles in the Sky," "Sandstorm" etc. I just came out, threw a 6 hour house/trance set and they were blown away. That's not to say my skills are amazing, but to them I was Morillo/PvD/Tiesto and it felt amazing. They interacted with me... damn... it was just incredible. Fell in love with a beautiful Tica on the same trip. Just amazing! I'm going back in 2 weeks! 8) 8) 8)

"standard of living" is all relative.. I'd say the standard of living blows away this country.. freedoms, surf, women, people, vibe.. you name it.. Yeah so you have 7-11's here.. whoop de doo jajaja
Guest Mr._Jangles
My biggest gig was at Bar Ola Ola is Playa Hermosa. It was on May (not April) 21, 2005. I played at Vida Loca in Cocos on the 20th and the weekend before I played at La Central in Jaco and I forget the name of the place in Tamarindo.I agree with you with the standard of living being relative. Like I said, they generally appear to be more relaxed, in better health and happier than what we see in the states. Plus the food and drink down there is much healthier because there isn't a McDonald's in every town. I just said that because they don't have the financial security we have. I have always been a "when in Rome..." type of guy and I find happiness in enjoying everywhere I visit by enjoying it for what it is, not comparing it. I guess I just misused the "standard of living" thing.Anyways, I'm going back there Aug 12-17 but not for gigs this time... just to see my Tica bonita. I'm sure I'll come back for gigs soon though

Guest Mr._Jangles
Yeah, it was great. Awesome vibe. The crowd was full of drunk tourists and disco ho's that were playing them like a record. Everyone was having a good time though. Jaco is a craaaazy town. Truly the Babylon of Costa Rica. Just a bunch of good, dirty fun

Oh well.Seems like you had a good time...never been to Costa Rica but being from South America, i can relate somewhat...You do know that prostitution is legalized in the US as well, right? They are called Escort Services...the reason they allow them is because they can put a tax to it...but the diff in most latin countries is that the price for that type of "service" is much cheaper...and since the country n people r so corrupt, no really gives a F.Question...if you are "American"...girls will come talk to you cuz they think u got $$$ and you can fly them out to your "castle" in the US...that's how it is in most 3rd world countries. Maybe not as much as it used to be say 5 years ago or so. You will not see that if you go to major metropolitan cities though, since most of the women there got class, education, and can support themselves. Unless, you go into some disco that is known for those of type of aka hoes. 8)

Guest defunes
I love parties in Central America and some countries in SOuth America because it is still an underground movement. People are so greatful for parties overthere. I'm from HONDURAS and I'm going to the Sunjam..a 2 day event where everyone goes to a 3 acre private island to party. Check it out... www.sunjamutila.com From what I've heard it's the biggest EDM event in Central America. I'm also throwing a party in Tegucigalpa for Halloween, and talking with a local dj to go play there. He played NOC afterhours once this last few weeks.
