Three-time Academy Award® winner Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King) directs King Kong, bringing his sweeping cinematic vision to the iconic story of the gigantic ape-monster captured in the wilds and brought to civilization where he meets his tragic fate.

The screenplay by Jackson, Walsh (three-time Oscar® winner) and Boyens (Academy Award® winner) is based on the original story by Merian C. Cooper and Edgar Wallace, which became the classic 1933 RKO Radio Pictures film, directed by adventurers Cooper and Ernest B. Schoesdack. The RKO King Kong has been designated by the National Film Registry of the United States Library of Congress as one of the 100 Greatest Films and chosen by that organization for permanent preservation as a national treasure.

Jackson will employ the latest motion picture technology to cinematically portray the timeless tale of the beast and his beauty. Expanding on the chapters of the tale that take place in the mysterious and dangerous jungles of Skull Island, Jackson's Kong promises to be a unique and breathtaking creation. As with his Lord of the Rings trilogy, Jackson will shoot King Kong on location in his native New Zealand.

I saw the previews for this. It looks really good. In fact the original King Kong was the first movie that I ever saw.(I rememeber it a little bit especially the scene where he comes through the wooden wall) I saw it at a drive in with my parents when I was 3 or maybe 4 years old in 1977....

The original with claymation that was made in the 30's? Or the remake with Jessica Lang in the 70's?.... :P

i have seen both but its been a number of years since. AMC just showed the 70's remake with Lange and Jeff Bridges (Jessica Lange looked great, btw) the other night. seeing it again now, it has an extremely cheesy kong and special effects. i think the 1930s version might actually have aged better.

This movie was way to over hyped! I sadly thought that it was the biggest waste of 3 hours of my life. I was pretty dissapointed! I mean 13,000 out of 14,000 people who reviewed it on Yahoo Movies the first week gave it a grade of A for an average score of A-. One of the highest ratings I've seen on Yahoo Movies so I rushed out to see this film.

BIG MISTAKE!

First of all there was about 1 hour of footage that they could have cut out of the movie..

I won't spoil it for you guys who do want to see this but for those of you who did, the part that ruined it for me was when they were running down the hill in front of the tumbling Brontasourouses (spelling?). There was no way that anyone could have survived it.

Basically Jurasic Park was way better than this movie and the end was not as climactic as I expected it to be being a Steven Jackson film...

I jumped on Yahoo and gave it a C+

I saw it. I loved it. Very good movie. There were only 3 things I didn't like about it. One, the part where they're running through that canyon with giant brontosauruses stumbling and bumbling over them was too unbelievable. I don't buy it at all that they wouldn't have gotten crushed. Two, I didn't think Ann Darrow's initial reactions to seeing Kong and being snatched by him, accurately depicted the terror you'd expect from such an experience. Three, I didn't like that it jumped ahead from when Kong was captured to when he was on display, without any dialogue between Ann and Jack, and/or Ann and Carl Denham. I guess I liked, and missed, the dialogue that occurred in the 1979 version while enroute to New York. I would like to have seen more reactions and discussion at that point to the horror they had encountered and survived. But that's just me.

I loved the scenes where Ann performed for Kong, that was cute and funny. And the scenes of Kong fighting the T-Rexes was incredible. Unlike the running canyon scene I mentioned above, I was thrilled by the scene of Kong, Ann, and the T-Rexes falling down the canyon and being caught and tangled by the vines. And I also liked the part in the park where Kong literally acted out my user name. LOL!

I liked the film a lot, and it did not feel like 3 hours to me, it really didn't. It was the same with Revenge of the Sith, which did not feel like 2 hours 10 minutes to me; the time just flowed by.

Anyway, that's my opinion.

LOL, I should do that!

What I don't believe though, is that that ice supported him. I mean c'mon! It's not the arctic with ice feet thick!

It will probably take me a week to watch this movie. I sometimes watch movies in sections.

I don't have ADD for the record.

They tried too hard to make an epic with a three hour film. You don't notice three hours go by when you're watching a great film. Still, flick was ok. B-

it's not that bad

[note: i wasn't paying close attention, was up and moving around the house while it was on]

i think most of what makes it is the special effects, should have seen it in the theatre

I have a 42" HDTV at home. I just need the theater type seating or a couch. You’re welcome to come by.
