Barbarino Posted January 11 Report Share Posted January 11 I haven't been in a while, there is now a cover, and even though they took care of me, I must say, I don't mind paying what ever the cover is, which I don't know, but why change or imo ruin a great party with a cover charge??? It's delray with a 130ish last call time...come on, don't mess with a great thing.. I'm not going to pay cover to wait in line for the bathroom for 20 mintues 3 times a night... However, their door staff has the most leeway of any door staff, of any successful club I have ever been to. George hands out comp tickets to anyone that is even remotely a regular and their guests. When I brought Oscar G. and Edgar V. in there we actually had to run a tight door. That was difficult to ask people that have been coming in for free every weekend for years to fork over $10 however good of a deal it is for those of us who know Oscar and Edgar.Also, I believe they made that decision because they were looking at increasing revenues. Delux is the only game in town and is and has been very successful for better than four years. With Delray Beach not allowing any more nightclubs into the city (they saw what happened to Clematis) I would venture a guess that Rodney, Scott, and Dave are going to be making money with that venue for many many more years to come.Also, they take extremely good care of their regulars both at the door and bar. Because of the large crowds and the good times being had by all... and the excessive napkin throwing... they finally caved in and decided to capitalize on the situation and "ask" for a cover. I say ask, because their door policy(basically giving away the secret) is if you throw ANY name around of anyone that is working there, you're in... it's to take money from tourists and non-regulars and keep all the regulars coming back, and now feeling even MORE special by getting "comped".I have worked for Rodney and Scott for almost 10 years or more dating back to the early days of Respectable Street Cafe in WPB. They are 2 of the nicest guys in the biz and treat their staff INSANELY well and with more respect than anyone else... except Dave Grutman of course. MOST of their staff have worked at their venues from the opening or at least a couple years. Their attitude definitely shows in their staff, who for the most part are all equally as cool! They have seen the numbers go down a little bit as far as the number of people goes, but sales haven't skipped a beat because a place that size only has so many bartenders that can serve only so many drinks an hour... people are a little more comfortable, can get drinks faster and only have to wait 10 minutes for the bathroom... everyone wins IMO!
