With the AMonly party simultaneously raging on at Nocturnal in Downtown Miami and an afterhours rumour with Richie Hawtin confirmed, it was then off to Nocturnal, which quickly became one of the hardest venues to get into. As the intimate Nocturnal terrace slowly lit up with the fast approaching sunrise, perhaps the WMC's tallest DJ, Adam Beyer - something of a giant standing at almost six and a half feet - took to the decks, entertaining many of his techno peers and the crew from BED.

Richie Hawtin & Adam Beyer

Once the sunrise hit, the warm rays were well received by the crowd and suddenly, it was all on. Although the Hawtin vs Beyer set was a huge highlight, it was also impossible to overlook the sets and/or attendance of the likes of Loco Dice, Luciano, Marc Houle, Mathew Jonson, Mr. C and James Holden. Once again, the crowd was a collage of artists, PR folk, booking agents, cheeky press and the odd music junkie lucky enough to get in. Perhaps, as close as Miami will ever get to DC-10 in Ibiza.

It was pure madness. The music was superb and the sun and blue sky peeping through the clouds overhead were a welcome sight on Nocturnal’s intimate 200-capacity terrace.

But then, it suddenly all came to a head in minimal TV soap style, with an incident between Richie Hawtin and the big side-of-a-house sized security team (a mandatory requirement of any Miami club). At first it looked like just a few stern words but the chain of events that soon followed had mouths dropping.

What exactly caused the riff we will probably never really know, but Richie wasn’t prepared to be kicked out. Asserting their authority like only they know how, within seconds one guy had Richie in a headlock, while another two (pulling at various parts of his body) made an effort to get him out the door. Various friends and DJs in the vicinity tried to help stop the nonsense but as you can imagine, convincing a dozen gorilla-like security guards to do something distinctly different from their mindset was never going to happen easily. And it wasn't until Beyer pulled the music that things abruptly came to a halt.

What was Hawtin's group doing? Was he kicked out for good and how far into his set was he?

hawtins group was acting like a bunch of fuctards on the patio...... ::) ::)

---Hmmm....so...you're saying that Richie was acting in a violent & disruptive manner & compromising the safety of others?? That's the only justifiable reason for someone to be physically assaulted by a venue's security staff & to be removed from said establishment.

Throwing, tripping, and serving drinks on top of equipment as well. What a mess and lack of professionalism. Adam Beyer was the only jock acting half right. And yes that is one tall foker!

that has to be a really dumb thing to say ... so what, if you are not "violent" theres no posible reason why you wont get kicked out of a club because it doesnt mean a thread to others ? please

how about when people do drugs, have sex or god knows what other things while in a club (ive seen a lot of weird shit) .. where do you see the violence in that huh ? << these people still get kicked out

mr Richie was having a "not normal" behavior so he got his share and got kicked out ... maybe he'll learn his lesson this way cause what i heard about this indicent was not a nice picture ... ..

what a shame, especially when it comes to an artist like himself

---No offense but there is no evidence of ignorance in my previous statement. It's one thing to be escorted from a venue for questionable behavior. It's something else to be physically assaulted by staff. Granted, I wasn't there so it's all hearsay at this point.

---If you're in your "thirty's" as I am, I'm sure we have both witnessed some strange happenings in club land. However, if door staff traditionally kicked out everyone who had induced substances or made a special sexual visit to the restroom, the club would be half empty.

---Alas, I completely agree with you on the subject of professionalism. I feel that many artists/djs are lacking in that arena. Performances &, of course, the audience suffer in the end.

lol . 'minimal/tech will be over' funniest thing ive heard all year considering its been around since like 1991 .. and its still going thats pretty fuckin surprising .. it may not be popular to the rest of you trendies but for some of us who actually like techno it will be just as cool today as it was 5 years ago.

its a shame if they don't play miami .. you people miss out ill just get on a plane and go see them somewhere where they are appreciated.

people will be talking about these parties for years to come.

What a dork of a DJ, I really dont see what the mass appeal of this guy really is, to tell you the truth.

yeah he has made great productions with the alias Plastikman but for him to come to conference and act like a clown and get thrown out for acting like he was acting, really made him look so unprofessional and I hope he learns his lesson from this. But I can imagine that a lot of the people that went to this party to see, "what the whole fuss was about Richie Hawtin". Really aren't going to see him next time around and also it probably hurt him from getting booked down here again.

Alot of Dj's that come during conference that make big impressions usually get booked again after conference is over.

Find it odd really. Never met the guy but in his interviews he comes across as the sort not to do anything of that nature...i.e. show up, play, go back to the hotel.

its quite simple if he doesn't come to miami it's we that loose thats all .. he played so many good records i won't get to hear again for ages (old and new) people like wtf .. im like this record 10 or 13 years old .. but you know what .. everyone has their bad days i don't encourage or excuse anything that happened but ffs you think its going to affect him getting booked? please .. the guy is booked for months upon months through the year. if anything you might not see him till next year. it's a shame cause adam and him luciano and marco were straight up killing the place .. the only thing i might feel have happened is that the guys thought miami was ibiza .. thats the vibe i got from them the entire weekend.

video from saturday morning.

when did you last see nocturnal like this?

Richie came to the WMC this year to have fun. What happened at Nocturnal was crazy I know I was in the middle of it all! He was having a good time with his friends drinking and partying but the sauced up thugded out bouncers didn’t see it that way.

Dispite how trashed he was. The music was some of the best that Miami has ever come across!!! And no we didn’t loose out!!!

Yo Ramon you better have my cookie ready! This party was SICK!!! The only people that were missing was Sven and Ricardo!!!!!
