Yeah u heard it here..

Slowly but surely a bulk loads of MMA fighters is suddenly starting to call South Florida home and with them they are bringing their philosophy's in fighting and styles, they are opening gyms around here and they are exposing the sport to the people around here.

Guys like Wanderlei Silva of the Chute Boxe Academy, Randy Couture and Antonio Minotuoro Noguiera are suddenly training here and even calling South Florida home. MMA Gyms are suddenly opening up at a faster rate than Boxing Gyms.

Ever since the UFC's explosion people have changed their minds about the sport once called to be too brutal, people have come to accept the sport and even cooperations are following notice, Miami Based Burger King sponsors the UFC's The Ultimate Fighter which airs on Spike TV. The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood last October drew 4.2 million viewers, peaking at 5.7 million, according to the UFC.

The Seminole Hard Rock Casino has been a loyal companion with the UFC, booking atleast 3 fights a year to bring the sport to South Florida, the UFC is even thinking of putting another PPV together that woud be hosted either @ the AAA or The Bankatlantic Arena.

More and more people are signing up to learn these Martial Arts and more world class fighters are moving down here to teach them. Even our very own Kimbo Slice is a product of the MMA explosion, a guy who would have his backyard fights filmed and posted on the internet has suddenly exploded into the world of MMA becoming a headliner even for Cage Fury Fighting Championships.

With all these different Federations suddenly popping out and broadcasting their fights it has given opportunities to more people to put their name out there. And South Florida is at the forefront of it.

Yea it's totally the truth. Wanderlei Silva just moved to West Palm and is opening a gym there. Randy Couture also just opened his gym in that area. Along with American Top Team, that makes three major MMA training centers all within a few miles of each other.

no one gives a fuck about ass clowns who could never beat a real pro boxer.. And someone tell Tito, his bitch looks terrible these days..

I thought when Dana White was talking shit and wanted Mayweather to back up his smack, that was very telling. When it came down to Dana wanting to pay Mayweather to get in the ring, Mayweather backed out. A boxer would have no defense against a good grappler. Their only hope would be to knock them out standing up. I would have to disagree with you on that one.

But, Tito's bitch does look like...well...a ragged out whore. True ;D

it was probably all publicity, but White said he would pay him? Ah, it will never happen because as Dana White said, "boxers are one trick ponies", money will always be an issue too though, soooo. I could only hope to see a boxer get choked out.

Here is a decent article about the Mayweather/White battle of words...its really pretty funny...

Boxing’s Floyd Mayweather Jr is back at it, saying that UFC fighters aren’t up to the challenge of boxing.

“UFC's champions can't handle boxing. That's why they are in UFC,†said Mayweather.

UFC President Dana White fired back, saying “Boxers couldn't become mixed martial artists. That's why they're boxers. [boxers] are one trick ponies. Our guys can do everything. They can box, they can kick box, they can wrestle and do jiu-jitsu. They are much better athletes than boxers.â€

Mayweather disagrees, saying, “Put one of our guys in UFC and he'd be the champion. Any good fighter, he'd straight knock them out. Take Chuck Liddell. Put him in the ring with a (boxer) who is just 10-0 and Chuck Liddell would get punished. They wouldn't have a chance to grapple (us) because we'd knock them out.â€

White challenged Mayweather to prove his point by fighting UFC's lightweight champion Sean Sherk.

“Any day that Mayweather wants to put his money and his ass where his mouth is, I'm ready,†White said. “If he wants to step up, let's do it.â€

Mayweather says that’s no problem: “I'll beat him and come home and watch basketball. Why would I go into a sport paying hundreds of thousands when I'm in a sport paying $20 million?â€

White, always confident about his UFC fighters’ abilities, says that his fighters “are amazing athletes. Floyd Mayweather is one of the best boxers ever, [but] Sean Sherk will whoop his ass in under two minutes.â€

It’s not the first time Mayweather and White have battled it out in the press. A couple of weeks back they had a a similar volley, in which UFC’s White said “I'll put up a million dollars of my own money if Floyd Mayweather can sell more than 10 tickets without Oscar De La Hoya.â€

The UFC is making Millions and Millions on the sport, the sad thing about MMA is that these guys are facing harder competition than a Boxer would and they are getting paid chum change for it.

Even the UFC's top dawgs are getting paid under 1 million which is a total disgrace.

not new.. my coworker is higly trained in many forms of martial arts. he trains with a lot of MMA guys they have been down here a while now

Well I don't think anybody is saying MMA is new to SoFla, but when two of the absolute best in the world decide to move here and open gyms, I think it says something.

Every 'roid addict I run into claims to be an MMA expert. MMA is the latest fad.

It would have been karate or judo in the '80s.

Next, it'll be Krav Maga I bet.

Barbarino I have to disagree with you man. A boxer would easily be dominated by a mixed martial artist. A boxer only knows how to fight standing up, and most fights end up on the ground. If you were to put somone like Mayweather up against Sean Sherk, Mayweather's only hope would be to knock him out with one punch. And that's not bound to happen. You have to remember that mixed martial artists also train in boxing. So they know how to throw punches, and how to defend themselves against punches as well. The second that Sean Sherk would shoot on Mayweather, he'd take him down like a clown. And then Mayweather would be helpless on the ground. Like a turtle on it's shell.

Krav Maga is already a fad with women and people looking for simple self defense methods. Its already widely used by our Police Officers and some of our military.

The next style of Martial Arts on the come up is Sambo, a style similar to Judo and Jiu Jitsu that was used by the Russian Red Army to teach their soldiers.

A style of Martial Arts that is not taught by many in the USA, actually their are only a few academies and Gyms that do teach it. Anybody who knows their Martial Arts wants to learn Sambo but unless you get taught by it from a guy like Fedor Emelianenko or a sensei with a degre in Black Belt then your screwed and stuck on the teachings of Jiu Jitsu and Judo because you wont find many places around here tyhat do teach it, I actually think their is only 1 Gym that teaches it in Florida.
